Thats a big call on Dawson, you are making some big statements on kids playing futures. Is that inside knowledge or your own assessments?

Time will tell with regards to whether Green ends up at Sydney, but SOS made it sound like we are well stocked for rucks. So I doubt even if we had him ranked highly that we would be interested.

Dawson would be a defender at senior level.

Looks nothing like a key afl back or forward.

Is a ruck at afl level.

Identical to McEvoy.

Elite mark.

Lacks movement/agility to make it in a key position role.

I will be annoyed if we do not draft a KPD with a good athletic profile who competes hard.

It's a list need and it cannot be overlooked.

My only wish for next week.
Van es is exactly what you want and he is already on our list

At the recent testing event, Van Es topped all-comers in the running vertical jump (98cm) and second in the standing vertical jump (75cm), while ranked second from the key defenders who tested in terms of his agility. Combine that with his 2.91-second 20m sprint, and Van Es on paper is a well-rounded athlete. When he is able to really start punishing teams more by using that on-field, he can take his game to another level. Right now he can leap consistently and easily beat his opponent in that area, but is often a one-on-one defender without a lot of freedom other than when receiving uncontested in the back pockets.

My hopes for him are less then 50/50 with his quiet first season. Another young KPD is a strong requirement for me.

However i would love if what you say comes to fruition at senior level.

He has one year in the system and battled injury.

I’d be saying year 3 is when he needs to really come on.

If he plays senior football next year it’s because he has surpassed all expectations or we have gone to absolute shit.

If 17+18 is on the table for 13, I'd much prefer to trade down. I like Wilson a lot, don't absolutely love him. Was much happier when they tried to trade up for Hewett last year.
And according to Twomeys mock we miss out on both Wilson and Edwards by doing that.

I'm not a fan of diluting the quality for more quantity. If anything we should be trying to trade up maybe not this draft but 100% in next years

Just remember thats your opinion nothing more and for what its worth I completely disgaree. Plus it would seem so do many other draft watchers.

He is a 200cm 18yo and is probably still growing. His mobility looked fine in the games Ive watched, and he is actually quite quick over the first 10 metres. He will improve as he grows into his body.

I haven’t tried saying it’s anything but my opinion.

His age is irrelevant.

I’m not questioning his strength. Size or running ability. Which are the areas you would expect to see significant improvement from in an afl environment.

I’m saying he lacks the athleticism and agility you want from a key position player. Which are very hard to improve.

Hence why he is rucking in the TAC matches and not being shoe horned at either end and being called a swingman like he is at carnival level.

Things are up in the air with our first rounders but there’s a chance we take Wilson and then shortly after look to trade in if a certain player is still on the board.
I’m hearing there’s two players we are in love with between our two firsts, Wilson is one I’m assuming.

Edwards the other?

If they are our top two targets we can’t risk walking away empty handed.
We are assuming they are.

But we also know we really like Edwards and that Wilson is in that group of 12 player that seperate themselves from the rest

So unless you could guarantee one. It wouldn’t be great trading back and missing both.

The kid only turns 18 next month!

From that highlights package I’d be willing to bet as long as his backside points to the ground he won’t have the agility to play as a key defender at afl level, he’s a ruck at afl level imo.

Exactly the point I’ve been making.

He shows plenty but I don’t see an afl key position player. The big guys usually take a lot longer but these kids are nowhere near as raw as they once were. The work they put in and the coaching they receive is pretty impressive, the upshot of that is increasingly what you see now is what you get.

Bit too hard to judge off those highlights as just about every balls is kicked in the air to his direction.

A couple of write ups I've read on him though do praise his mobility?

I don't think there's much difference in quality between 13 and 17, and if that's true, and there is chance that players won't make the cut , you double the odds.
