List Mgmt. 2023 Draft Thread - Part I

Just made the mistake of listening to the AFL.com nerds round 1 review. Biggest winner being Essendon burning pick 31 to move above Geelong to “get their man” even though they were very confident Geelong had no interest in Caddy anyway.
Not a single mention of us or Geelong creating a free extra pick while still “getting our man”
Makes me sick!

But very happy with the picks while also creating a better hand next year! Smart dealing by the team

I watched the AFL’s coverage last night with Edwards, Twomey and Beveridge.

I don’t mind Beveridge, he is quite insightful. But the other two were terrible. They wouldn’t cut the mustard on commercial TV.

Geelong were not going to take Caddy but Essendon coughed up pick 31 to swap places with them. The Cats must have thought Christmas had come early.

Dodoro lost his nerve. It’s as simple as that. Nothing genius about it.

Cats got their man. And a bonus second rounder. The same as Saints.

Happy we picked up Collard. but it just shows the joke the AFL draft has become. WCE have been as bad or worse than North for three years, North get gifted multiple FRDP's.

WCE need to rebuild as much as North, GCS get something like 5 FRDP's because they are a northern club, we get Collard becasue WCWE can't match.

What a farce, what a joke, what a corrupt institution this competition has become with the new woman at the AFL gifting North those free dps when she has just come from there.

WCE supporters should be truly angry at this.
Yep, fair comment. Agree. 👍

Im sure thats the public reason given to the media. But 10 weeks (more than half an underage season) for a one off alcohol thing is not right

For the stuff I am alluding to, check page 264 of the North 2023 National Draft Preview Thread II

Absolutely no idea if those type of rumours are true. Hence why I was asking stavro#4. But if they are, would make a lot of clubs think twice
Did the hard work for y’all

Everyone who isn't norf or gold coast should be angry

As well as all the first round picks, Gold Coast have managed to trade their actual picks for end of first round pick 2024 ( North ) and Bulldogs first round pick 2024.
So they have 2 additional first round picks next year without having to pay a thing for them.

What happened to leathlean‘s picking local kids. Overlooked Edwards to take Wilson and reached for a want away wafl thirds player when Roberts would have been a great choice. I’m sorry but I’m not impressed at all nor am I a fan of dow or Henry, hope I’m proven wrong but I doubt it.

We were nether smashing the trade period or the draft with what we had to work with but I’m very disappointed with what we’ve done.

Taking local kids is second to actually taking the best available kid. It's great to have kids local to the area but what's most important is taking a kid with a higher projected ceiling

Wilson at the moment is a better prospect than Murphy, who failed at the combine. Ollies numbers were not great. He's still there for us to take him tonight, and I suspect we will.

Picking Nasiah worked out well when some thought we should have gone local. First round picks you have to go best available and back in your system.

You'd think if Collard goes home we get what we gave to get Henry. F2. Personally players tend to stay if the environment is good have a good coaching staff and, more importantly you are winning games.

Saints very quietly moved up the board to get pick 27 which is now 33 by amalgamating a 3rdp and a f3rdp.
As well as....in effect by swapping with GWS we got Henry for free by replacing our f2rdp we traded out.

Carlton with Camporele son will be interested in both our f3rdp for pick 34 which is a stretch. Or swap one with GCS 50 or GWS at 44 or a very cheaky Bris at 42 who may want something in the bank for next year.

I would have a swing at George Stevens if he was available later, Jobe Watson was big lumbering and slow in the beginning and he went okay.

We always complain about turning athletes into possession pigs....no reason it cannot go the other way....if he turns into a bigger version of Dunstan with better disposal I am not complaining.

Hoping for Ollie Murphy with our first pick tonight. Hard not to like a kid who idolises Wilkie.
What am I missing here.

I just don’t see it with Murphy.

We took the best available. Which is the best choice.

Jobe Watson* got some injected assistance to stop being slow and lumbering ...

Yeah we should always overlook the more talented kid for the one who lives Bayside.

I liked Edwards too, but I've come around somewhat with the Wilson pick. I can see why we did it.
Collard, I knew nothing about...I've got 50 seconds of footage of him on the AFL site after the fact. I'm not holding my breath on him.
Hoping we pick up Simpson.

So is Bont

Your above comment got me looking at his highlights.

Good in the 1v1
Happy to put body on body
Plays in front
Hits targets by foot

- Needs 10kg for AFL level

Lot to like!

Further evidence suggests he's a probable bust. Pass.

Im really happy with our first round especially considering where the picks we had were.

Wilson looks really solid and no question on the athleticism.

Collard is probably a touch speculative (most small forwards are) but also exciting enough to be worth the punt.

I think North made out like bandits but thats expected with 5 picks in the first round, theyll have a fire sale on mids in the next few years so hopefully we can just pick up someone that wants out at that point.

Dogs also seem to have done really well from round 1.
