People would have said the same about Hodge Mitchell and Lewis
Yeah, but it's a little different. Those players were being pushed out the door. I haven't heard anything to suggest Cats would be happy to part with Hawkins. In fact, i get the feeling Chris Scott isn't the type to let go of his champions that easily. I'd be shocked if we shake Hawkins lose.

Are we aiming too high, or in the right places? Not saying these blokes are available or that we aren't even having a crack, but what about Finlayson? Riccardi? Waterman? Liam Ryan? Chol? McLean? All these blokes are interstate, love a goal, and would improve our forwardline without costing us a mint. Again, not sure if any are gettable, but have heard most of these names pop up at certain stages which suggest they might be(well, maybe not McLean, but I want him). The Lynch and Hawkins and Ben King types are a nice thought, but highly unlikely or will cost far too much which in turn affects our draft capital.

Iirc Mitchell wasn't pushed out. Hawks tried to backtrack on Lewis after Mitchell walked and ended up losing both.

The fact that he's still ooc a month after the season ended shows they're in no rush. He's a UFA so he'd be the cheapest of any of those options

If we've got nothing else in the pipeline I'd be annoyed if we didn't at least ask the question.

Hawkins would be great for a year but like others can't see him leaving the Cats unless they're really forcing him out.

Chol sounds like a good, cheap option. Yes he's flaky, but has the tools there to be a handy player. The right size/age mix for us too.
I wouldn’t hate it if they had a crack at Hawkins or a Charlie Dixon (if his body has anything left) or a Jack Darling.

The price would need to be right, being almost nothing in trade capital.

But any of those would be a better 2024 option than Brown or McDonald so to me that improves the list.

2024 must be about a premiership tilt. One year plays are fine for mine.

Wouldn't touch Darling too uncompetitive but happily go with the other two.

Hawkins sounded stupid at first but I do see some merit. Especially because alot of these blokes if they're interested in coaching are encouraged to get away from the club they played for to get better experiences.

I'd offer him 2 years with an assistant coaching role

Sam Mitchell is a hawthorn champion that played a year at West Coast. I don't think anyone thinks his career is tainted because he didn't stay a hawk for life.
Yeah don't think people even remember guys like Doug Hawkins, Dermie etc playing for other clubs. Only way is if they win a flag playing for the new club ala Dew or Isaac Smith and I'm not sure anyone's complaining then

Id give it a 10% chance of happening though

Can probably add Brody Grundy to the pinned list if we’ve got Jordon on there too.

Will be replacing 7+ players which is a big number.
Not technically OOC, but will update when a trade is requested

Could have a look at Mannagh after his Grand Final for werribee?
25YO, knows how to find the goals

Probably 0 chance unless we take him in the main draft but we're moving out later picks out I think. Any number of bottom teams would take him before our rookie pick

I haven't watched a second of him but clearly his stats suggest he's had a great year in the VFL. Would be very surprised if some team didn't throw him a lifeline. Slightly different as these guys were already associated with the clubs they were picked up by but Fritsch and Stewart went in the mid-late second round.

That's fair and if we had those picks we probably would but we will try and trade those out I assume

If we miss out on pick 4 I'm not sure what our plan is. Upgrading 5 to North's compo pick might be the play but they'd probably prefer a late first on top over a bunch of seconds.

I'd happily do 5 and 13 for pick 3 if it allowed us to get McKercher. That being said, with North rumoured to be getting end of first round priority picks over the next two years, they'd probably prefer quality to quantity, especially considering how far our pick 13 is likely to blow out.

The thing that might tempt them is O'Sullivan as a key back with 5 or Sanders who they were so keen on all year, with another free first rounder on top. These things always come down to who the club rates in those ranges.

FORMER West Coast rookie Hamish Brayshaw has been crowned the 2023 Sandover medallist after a standout season with WAFL club East Perth as a goalkicking midfielder.

Brayshaw, who spent 2018-2020 on the Eagles' list, polled 26 votes to win by a significant margin from West Perth onballer Luke Meadows (19), teammate Angus Schumacher (18) and Swan Districts midfielder Jesse Turner (18).

Hamish Brayshaw won the Sandover medal this year. He’s 25 years old and would be a could fit for Casey with his brother at the club.

A couple of other options in the top finishers perhaps too.

I wouldn’t. Would rather Sanders + Windsor combo over Mckercher.
