Wouldn't call it luck. We've spent a fortune on Oliver Petracca and Brayshaw and left clearly not much room to chase anyone else.
Also just re-signed Lever. Forever thankful for the role he played in our flag year but I reckon with a bit of time, opportunity and development that Disco Turner could bring most of what he does to the table for a fraction of the wage.

Levers probably on alot. Oliver and Trac are on over a million by the lack of moves we make. We clearly don't have money to splash

Most journos reporting we have a decent amount of cap space and Lynch got a very back ended contract tbf

Bit frustrating given the Hawks who already had Franklin, Cyril, Roughead, Hodge and Lewis were able to add Gibson, Lake, Frawley and Burgoyne as well as good role players like Hale and McEvoy.

Heard that every year and we haven't added any good free agents or made a high profile trade since May.

Pies will have Mason Cox, Billy Frampton and Mihocek as their talls up forward next week.

No real match winners there. I think a fit Petty, JVR and Fritsch (Joel Smith as back-up) for the whole year next year is more or less enough talent up forward. I'd like a mature KPP/2nd ruck to keep JVR inside forward 50 but i'm not sure who's really available outside of Chol who the club doesn't seem in the running for.

Need them playing together and actually developing some chemistry and getting them some easier goals with some more aggressive ball movement. Would also help if Langdon got back to his 2021 form and we actually generated some clean inside 50s from the fat side with his overlap running - that really vanished this year.

Sure but when you look at the mentioned players like Frawley, Lake, Lynch etc. They were all in crap sides and ooc. We have the capital this year but not much to spend it on. Ben McKay is the biggest fish this off season.

Grundy was our big fish :$

In hindsight we should have used the Grundy money to give a couple of guys a little advance this year and spent the whole season making a massive play for Larkey. C'est la vie

Hawkins would be great for a year but like others can't see him leaving the Cats unless they're really forcing him out.

Chol sounds like a good, cheap option. Yes he's flaky, but has the tools there to be a handy player. The right size/age mix for us too.

Said the same on our board. You should offer him 2 years and see what happens. Assume he’d want to remain a one club player but you’d be in a GF if you had him this year. Could be to you what Cameron was to us.

I'd happily take Hawkins to bridge the gap until Jefferson has developed a bit (lot) more, but I just can't see it happening. Has a settled family, a legacy at Geelong, and is still playing solid footy.

Maybe a coaching pathway could entice him, but imagine Geelong will happily line up something for him post-footy anyway.

My guess is Lever is on a fair bit less than he was from his initial contract, as that $$ value was to help lure him over.

Think I read somewhere we had close to $2m to play with when Grundy goes.

Tomo/Harmes on close to $1m
Melksham/Hibberd probably another 400k between them
Grundy 650k
Jordan 150k
Dunstan 150k
Lever - prob on less coin then his initial MFC contract
May/Gawn - contracts tapering

Might also get some savings if Tmac or Brown retire like they should.

Hale was an interesting one, he was willing to come to Melbourne until hawthorn came in with a better pick. He would have been cheap as chips.

No access to Sanders, no pick 11 for North - just an end of first round this year.

Jack Nicholson Yes GIF
To me this basically guarantees pick 3 for Mckay.
