I’m getting quite concerned that we’ll end up not being able to move our second round picks and will end up having a bunch of rubbish picks in the 30’s.

We might not even use them all!

Even if we can push earlier into next years draft it would be something.

As I said we weren’t given 3 first round PPs in the same year (or 2 PPs the year before).

We also didn’t make a prelim 6 years prior.
Who cares about 6 years but that's not even what I'm arguing nor do I care. The systems shit. But you can't pretend we deserved 3 for Frawley that was a bloody handout.

Pick 3 for Frawley was fine IMO. First round pick for an AA (premiership) player who was one of the best in a struggling side with very little talent.

McKay is potato, from memory North have a lot more talent that the Dees did back then.

He was AA 4 years before the free agency move and was pretty crap for the last 2 years to the point he pretended to care and play forward all season.

Fair enough. I'm not disagreeing it was a handout, it's just not as much of a handout as McKay is, and it's going to a less-deserving side IMO.

Potatoes are nutritous and you can make chips and all kinds of tasty stuff out of them, dont insult potatoes pls, Mckay is no where near good enough to be compared to such tasty food...

I dunno we ****ing tanked, you could argue we deserved nothing more than North.

Pick 3 for McKay is fine, because it’s the algorithm and Essendon paid up.

What is s**t us the 3 gifted first rounders on top of that which were completely fabricated out of thin air.
Absolutely ludicrous, between that and the academy system totally rorting Vic clubs, the draft is so compromised this is no where near an even competition anymore.

I prefer the Moneyball approach which also worked in the past. We should keep a couple of these and draft a ruck or key defenders for the long term, some recent examples of quality defenders that were drafted with later picks:

Wilkie, rookie draft.
Petty, Pick 37
Sicily, pick 56.
Allir, pick 44,
Andrews, pick 61.
McGovern, rookie draft.

Briggs Pick 34
B Williams Pick 35
D Cameron Pick 48

.

Nothing like sitting back watching clubs like Brisbane and Essendon bring in guys free and then their respective players source clubs being strengthened with picks on the overs fabricated out of thin air at the expense of every other club.

While we do nothing to strengthen our own list.

Being active in free agency has worked so well for Essendon in the past 20 years.

Essendon dont have the building blocks that we have, you have to draft a good core to build around then you fill in the edges via trade and F.A. We've done both of those but for some reason we seem to have slowed down after Langon, May and Lever.

"Petty's got a pretty serious foot operation that he had, who knows whether he'll be back and fit and firing.”

This is what I'm worried about tbh. Lisfranc injuries can be a nightmare, as we know too well.

Tomlinson being held to contract, Brown playing on when 99% of us thought he would retire, Fullarton, rumours of the Dees throwing big contracts around at key forwards... Reckon part of the list strategy has been around covering this it seems.
