For the record;

Head of Physiotherapy and Medical Services Damian Raper provided an update on the injury list ahead of Round 9 against Fremantle, presented by Castlereagh Imaging.

Matt Roberts

Matt’s recovery from a knee injury continues to progress. He is increasing his range of movement and working on his strength in the gym. We expect him to remain in a brace for at least another fortnight.

Dane Rampe
Dane continues to improve in his recovery from a neck injury. He is completing strength-based work and maintaining his aerobic fitness on the track.

Joel Amartey
Joel is progressing his running speed and volume. He has commenced rehab skills and change of direction work.

Paddy McCartin
Paddy is completing some light aerobic exercise as a part of his recovery. He continues to see external specialists as part of his recovery and his wellbeing remains the number one priority.

Sam Reid
Sam was unable to progress to running last week as planned due to persistent symptoms from the injury suffered in the pre-season. After consultation with specialists, Sam underwent surgery on his hamstring tendon yesterday. He will miss the remainder of the season.

Marc Sheather
Marc sustained a bone bruise to his knee in the second quarter against Collingwood. He will be monitored throughout the week.

And still no mention of Caleb Mitchell.
caesar88 (back on 25 April 2023) said that Mitchell has 'glandular fever, not serious'.

Mitchell hasn't played since late March. The guy is on our senior list, and assuming it is nothing more 'personal' than glandular fever it seems disrespectful to the guy not to at least give him a call out in the injury report.

Early in-game injuries have been killing us.

Q1
  • Paddy concussed two minutes in re Power
  • Mills calf goes two minutes in against Dockers
  • Lladams first bounce of the game can’t feel left side of his body

Q2
  • T-Mac out concussed re Power
  • Roberts soft tissue re Cats
  • Amartey hammy re Tigers
  • Sheather hyper ex re Magpies
  • Logan some sort of foot/ankle injury re Dockers

This is not bad coaching, wrong attitude, bad game plan, poor prep etc - this is just super bad luck. Especially the games when multiple personal go down early (power and dockers eg made a huge difference)

It isn't just the injuries, it is the fact that they are all long term injuries. Have not had many 2 to 3 injuries this year, they have all been injuries measured in months.

Yeah that’s a seperate but related issue - which is of course killing us

Just saying early in game injuries are point-in-time unforeseen brutal set backs. If Mills had of got the sniper in the warmup or during the week for eg, at least we have Stephens or Sheldrick come into the team rather than just playing a man down two minutes in

So Paddy is doing some extremely limited training and seeing external specialists.

So its not clear and cut case that he should retire immediately or avoid contact sport?

Early prognosis

Sydney's injury toll has reached crisis point, with Mills and McDonald both ruled out for an extended period. The status of Ladhams remains unclear, with coach John Longmire indicating Tom Hickey's return last week was forced due to the absence of the incumbent ruckman. The club will take a conservative approach with Tom McCartin after he experienced delayed concussion symptoms last week, clouding his immediate future. All told, the Swans currently have their three best tall defenders, three tall forwards, incumbent ruckman and best midfielder in the casualty ward. The only bright spot last week was the return of Sam Wicks (shoulder) in the VFL. - Martin Smith
