Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

How did we end up with 3 first round picks, and 2 list spots?

And still have an almost full rookie list?

This is exactly what I was arguing when we re-signed Sloane.

Our primary list spots were at an absolute premium this year and I don't mean to sound too negative, but to me if feels like we've wasted two of them by keeping Sloane and by bringing in Davies.

Can someone explain how our rookie list is full?

We pretty much cleaned out our rookie list with delistings so from what I can tell Parnell is our only current Category A rookie and bringing in Borlase will leave us with 4? rookies spots left.

Keane is Category B

Can anyone confirm or clear this up?

Keane is Cat A. Keane and Parnell are currently 2 of the 4 rookies. Borlase, should he last to our pick is 3.

I'm not sure what your point is?

He's not worthy of a main list spot. Why would we ever draft him in the main draft?
My point is even if we wanted to put him on the list we can’t.

I see you’ve responded to this post though and not the ones where I picked you up on us not being short on list spots and asking for a comment on keeping Sloane. Why is that?

I'm fairly certain Keane is category A for us - would've been B at Collingwood. Since he'd already been on an AFL list, he wasn't eligible for Cat. B.

Keane is not a category B
We don't have any category B s now .

Retained Parnell on the rookie list, added Keane via the PSSP (as a replacement for McAsey), and we've committed to re-drafting Borlase (who couldn't stay on the Cat B rookie list any longer).

I thought it was 38 main list players and up to 6 rookies?

When did it become 4?

Even back in June this was on the AFL website

"Clubs have been permitted to have a minimum of 37 players and a maximum of 44 players on their books, with primary lists between 36 and 38 players."

44 includes Cat B rookies. 38/4/2.

List sizes were effectively reduced by 2 players during COVID, and (despite promises from the AFL at the time) have never returned to pre-COVID levels.

Now the options are 38+4, 37+5, or 36+6, plus Cat B rookies.

So if it's only 4 rookies and Keane is a Cat A, can you explain how we had Seedman, Keane, Murray, Hately, Tyler Brown and McPherson on there in 2023?

Our initial rookie list was Seedsman, Murray, Parnell, McPherson.

Seedsman was put on the inactive list, and replaced by Brown. McAsey (senior list) was put on the inactive list and replaced by Keane (rookie). Hately was never on the rookie list.

Ah that makes sense.

Yep not sure where I got the idea from that Hately had been moved to the rookie list :drunk:

Thanks for the clarification.

No problem. Last 2 years, the list maths has been very confusing. Hopefully we make it a bit easier next year.
