Surely today's announcement doesn't increase the chances of Doedee staying
How many players have left because they have spat the dummy over not getting the captaincy?

Do you honestly think Doedee is this type of person?

I don't.

I wouldn't read too much into it.

Over the last few years it's been more evident that while Doedee is a strong leader, he's also very much his own person and isn't as close to the playing group as others.

I have no idea how Tom would be feeling. I'm not suggesting he is going to leave, only that it clearly doesn't lock him away (yes Captain Obvious I know).

I'm do wonder if he is sitting on the fence about staying or going whether this does have some sort of impact. Through no fault of his own the media have talked him up as a future captain and so regardless of whether he cares or not, there is always a chance he reacts negatively. I dont think Im explaining what I mean very well but I'm sure he isn't devastated

You asked for an example of a correct decision in playing players through injury.

By the end of last year, probably 25 to 30 players would have been managing some kind of injury, including many of our young players who would have been hitting the wall.

Despite that, we've now had a preseason with the vast vast majority of players completely injury free and having a full preseason - as Bigman has said in his recaps.

It would be one of our least injury-impacted preseasons in recent memory.

But you keep chucking handfuls of s**t around mate - no worries from me.

We've had a few hammies on top of the late surgery guys with their slow starts in non-contact hats.

playing with injury isn't demanded by burgess, that's become an urban myth. What he actually said is that he'd build resilience by having players continue to train at intensity with injury that would normally have them taking it easy. And yet, we continue to play blokes who can't train at intensity and instead are cotton wooled to the weekend. That is the opposite of what burgess was saying.
Thanks, I think you're right and I extrapolated his comments.

However, Doedee did play with injuries, and we know a lot of players do especially late in the season. If you want to play a best 22 in finals then playing with injury is a must.

Doedee is the best replaceable player we have I reckon.
Not too many issues if he goes.
In terms of role, yes.

However, we are very inexperienced in defence.

Could go as high as pick 2. Might be hard to get.
The funny thing about this draft is at this stage there aren’t a great deal of stand out midfielders

It’s an extremely strong looking top end draft full of exciting half forwards (and backs ) and rucks

I’m sure some of the half forwards will transition into midfield in their top age year but it’s hard to pick a top 10 of genuine midfielders right now

Going to be fascinating to see who the best midfielders are by end of season

I think it indicates that the club sees him as a flight risk. Maybe discussed captaincy with him and he told them it wouldn't hold him. If the role is something you give people to keep them at your club, they clearly didn't need to give it to Dawson having just moved, so they clearly decided giving it to Doedee wasn't going to be needed (one way or the other)

Nothing to do with it

Doedee didn’t have the support of players and coaches to same extent as Dawson

I was just listening to Sensible Crow who was listing off the FA's this upcoming offseason, and dare I say it, but do we have a potential Warchest situation a brewing in the salary cap?

Sloane: $900+
Crouch: $450ish
Doedee: $600ish
Fish: $350ish
Hopefully not, but Tex: $700ish

Considering only 2 of those players are in my current round 1 team, it's actually very rosy picture of the state of the club IMO.

Not to mention the recent list management strategy that should have been employed, whereby we front load the shit out of all recent contracts given our young list.

Seeds, reckon he’d be on about $500k

So I guess that begs the question, if we did have a hypothetical warchest and you could throw $1-1.2M/year at a player this offseason, who are you throwing it at?

Looking at the players on this list, it is pretty underwhelming as to who is available from a Free Agency perspective, so we would need to target someone who we would also have to pay in draft capital.

First thoughts move towards an elite midfielder. Who that is, I have no idea!

Just based on the approximate figures potentially coming off the cap in 2023 we could have enough for 2 x $1M/year contracts. And we'd still be well below the salary cap.

Snd thats before Tex.
Gotta pay the kids already there though

Watch us sign multiple players up

Early :(

With Smith getting on and Doedee yet to sign on, we could be short some experience in defence. Harry Himmelberg looks like a good fit.
As he turns 28 next year, what would the optimum number of years for a HH/Crows contract be? And what do you think would be the minimum years contract required to get him here?
