First final in mens footy , yep he was more than solid
Just solid

That said, Dowling has a lot of gym-work to undertake B4 next season ......his body isn't strong enough, his legs are quite ....well, lets say "chicken legs"

Even better news !

He has upside

Is already an endurance beast which is the main issue with a few of our other younger mids , a bit of strength and fine tuning of his kicking and we have a proper inside / outside midfielder we lack

Berry is the one I'm excited about for 2024

Unfortunately I was on him at the start of this season
Didn't look interested, lacked hunger, for most of the season ......but I liked Berry's game & attitude on the weekend !

Dowling has class written all over him..

He does ? .....I think it's been a normal 1st year for a draftee ....I wouldn't have said "class all over him"

You can't compare Dowling's season to that of Nankervis

Dowling was very impressive all year, he has great footy smarts and can find the goals. Clam is 100%, he should've been given 2-3 senior games this year.

Hately is the one I feel sorry for, never got a real run of AFL time on the ball, shunted back to a wing then demoted back to SANFL last year. Has had a cracking year in the SANFL as a pure mid. Would hope another club will pick him up as Crouch's signature surely means he is gone from our list.

Nankervis was drafted as a long term project, club would be stoked to have him with senior footy under his belt this early on. Can still see a move into the midfield for him, think he is actually way more suited to a FWD/MID role, so the fact he has shown so much class as a DEF is very promising. Could be a real swingman.

Hately is worse now, than when he came to us 3 years ago

I agree re Nankervis, as a MID .....has all the attributes we're looking for ....Dowling's got a bit of work to do, B4 he gets my nod over Nank as a Mid

Taylor for me.
Soligo for mine.

He's the closest to being able to transition full time into the midfield, especially with Schoenberg sidelined long term.

Has the tank, the smarts and is tough.

Good call... I'm looking forward to him going next level.

Taylor was the player I was most looking forward to debut this year, so hoping next season he has more luck with injuries.

Agree with all of this.

As JC said, get some muscle into Dowling and he has lots of upside.
Hately, probably the most badly managed player on our list
Nank, I don't know why we are playing him in the backlines, just madness, he has really improved this year.

I don’t reckon he would have debuted this year

Came to pre season on the back foot with not being able to keep up and he was no guarantee to go as well as last year in sanfl given his fitness base

I’m hoping the injury is the thing that gets his career going , be very interested in how he turns up to day 1 pre season and still think his raw talent is up there with Soligo who I rate highly

Dowling has been superb. We forget how young these new guys are. What did Sloane, Croach and Laird do in their first senior year?
Yep - he’s already had multiple games of > 20 disposals and some multiple goal games

Just runs all day and finds the footy for fun in a non fuss way , has always played this way

The Paul Connors interview on Gettable last week was very interesting. Although he seemed fairly certain that this was going to be a ultra low player movement trade period. Teams looking to hold players and maintain lists in the large part.

I have to admit. He looks to be on the money. Might be some pick shuffling, and minor list management decisions, but I'm not seeing any big fish out there for teams to chase. Trade week is looking like a massive fizzer this year.

Further to that with so few list spots trading a fringe player for a 3rd round pick is almost a waste of time. Half the clubs will be out of the draft by then.

One thing I disagree with is increasing list sizes. I think they should be trying to almost reduce list sizes to elite players and then having larger supplementary lists that clubs can tap into. Do away with Rookie lists.
