Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Bulldogs ITK says Lobb wants out.

We were between a rock and a hard place. It would have been reckless of the club to offer him 2-3 years like Sydney have.

If it weren't for Sydney losing one or both McCartins and North losing McKay and Logue, then Joel would not be in demand and likely would have been content with a year at Freo.

All up, we are only losing some depth. We have cover. The big loser here is Peel.
Spot on. We have chappy back next year too.

Melbourne is open to trading star midfielder Clayton Oliver, with rival clubs already enquiring about his availability.

The response these clubs received has left the door ajar for the four-time best and fairest to depart Melbourne in the trade period, according to two sources with direct knowledge of discussions.

In recent times senior teammates have become increasingly more frustrated and concerned in equal measure with his welfare, to the point where Oliver moving away from his Camberwell house and in with captain Max Gawn has been seriously canvassed as a temporary option.

He told friends the Demons should have handled his hamstring injury better. When he had a knee complaint in early September, Oliver elected to visit a non-club physio to receive treatment.

But Melbourne believed the three-time All-Australian did not show enough professionalism in his rehabilitation.

This gets juicier by the second

Carlton got a third round pick last year for an older Liam Jones who had been out of the game for a year. Admittedly Jones did get three years, but years aren't that important to the compensation formula.

I remember Tyrone Vickery generated band 3 compo even though he only got a two year contract. That was because the Hawks didn't want to trade for him so they paid him more to ensure that Richmond got enough compensation to let him.

Another factor in our favour is the apparent recent jump in salaries. It looks like with the new CBA teams have been throwing around bigger contracts this year, so an average contract offer for the 2024 and 2025 season is going to be compared to the 2023 season and seen to be above average.
Liam Jones for some reason had clubs chasing him, so he got a decent sized deal + 3 years is better than 2, If Hammer gets 3 we would be a chance at a pick but he won't get that

The salaries going up also mean the bands are going up for FA, atleast thats how all the talk has been with Gresham and Mckay, possibly because this year was backdated to include the raises

Lobb to bulldogs honestly made 0 sense to me last season when it happened. Not surprised it may have blown up, especially with Croft as a F/S this season as well.

Felt a lot like the dogs being desperate to get anyone to try and improve after a bad season and grabbing who ever was some what interested

I was super keen on us chasing Tarryn Thomas when the rumours of him leaving North were swirling around.

Obviously doesn’t fit into our good bloke policy but we need to find an X factor, Rolls Royce mid imo. We can be a little bit one paced through though the centre.

Anyone got any thoughts on who we could target on the cheap to fit that role?
He’s De Goey territory.
Thomas will mature soon. He’s exactly what’s needed. But Bell is the principal, so definitely not .

Which idiot signed Worner…

Crazy ******* Belly for two more years.

Guy is a hack. So is Worner.
I thought it was absolute fcukin nuts giving worner a 2 year deal and said it on here at the time.
Crazy stuff. He hadn’t even played an AFL game yet and was a mature age rookie!
One year extension was perfectly fine for such a player.

Anyway let’s hope we are not having to let go someone else with value at the end of next season while the likes of Worner and Hughes are locked away on multi year deals….

Lobb to the Dees would actually strengthen them so much tbh, he is exactly what they need and they tried to make Grundy play that role

Dumb af that they couldn't realise that last year though, may have saved us a first rounder for Dogga, might have got away with last years first + Lobb + F2 meaning we have pick 5 FFS

Honestly don’t get why he didn’t ask for Melbourne. Absolutely perfect. He doesn’t want to play ruck, whereas Grundy did, and wants to be the second tall, whereas Grundy didn’t.

Yeh he’s risky and done some horrible things. Gonna be one hell of a footballer though.

Morally it’s tough supporting fellas of that nature but De Goey just helped lead the pies to a premiership. It’s a fine line between doing the right thing and winning.

No doubt he took the biggest $$ offer & thought he was better than he actually was & would be the number 1 forward at wherever he went. Even a club with 4 key forwards already.
Thats what happens when you have a manager who doesn’t give a toss about his players playing welfare.

What is this business about?
Doing the right thing. Or winning?
Every premier have bad guys.

Collingwood backed De Goey while he was in USA with the allegations. Would be no doubt Bell would’ve sacked him in mere hours.

It is funny seeing the Dogs board imploding about Lobb when hes probably not even going anywhere

They could realistically only get an F2 for him, anything this year would be eaten up by a Croft bid so thats useless to them (which tells me they probably won't trade him even if he did ask)

Ethics have long since disappeared in pro sport.
Collingwood would feel extremely vindicated watching JDG win them a flag the other day.
Nothing else matters unfortunately.

Look at Wayne Carey and what he got away with. How he’s been idolised and feted for decades by boot lickers everywhere. It’s depressing but that’s modern life.
