Some decent highlight vids of Cooper Simpson online for anyone who hasn’t watched him during the year. Particularly the one from noobermensch below.

And the AFL one only pasted a couple of days ago.

I love the throwing out player comparisons and he reminds me so much of a shorter LDU with his burst and ‘leg drive’ (to use a David King catch cry)

The boy can play. Possibly a better version of Tay Adams.

This draft over the 2 nights will be one painful one 😂 really hope they go back to 1 night.

i agree, just drags it more out than it already is, if they want to give time for picks to swap on the night, because that’s why the break it up over 2 nights, have a half hour break after the first round selections so every draftee can get his interview on tv, while the wheeling and dealing can go on behind the scenes in that time.

Only just watched the last episode of Gettable and Cal suggested Murphy’s likely landing spot is a pick in the 20’s. Which was an absolute surprise to me.

If so he actually could be a possibility at our first pick… so I’m now editing my picks.

Annoyingly he also thinks Charlie Edwards has interest in the top 15😤
Annoying? I reckon the rankings from the last month were just wrong and hadn’t caught up with what the recruiters were thinking. He’ll be long gone by our 1st pick.

BlindfDekka is allergic to talls

Reminded myself yesterday that he picked McMahon in 2020 with Ollie Lord and Samson Ryan still on the board.

And in 2016 it was Sam McLarty being picked whilst Nick Larkey, Mitchell Lewis, Brennan Cox and even Ratugolea were still up for grabs…. Sheesh

I doubt we go tall, but if we did I’d like it to be Lloyd because he looks to be able to kick his goals in a number of ways and he’s shown improvement across the year. That’s of course with no real knowledge of whether he’s got the traits (competitiveness, workrate, clean ball handling etc) so I assume Carl will find some way to whack my opinion.
I think Lloyd is intelligent/footy IQ, has a good temperament and work ethic, decent tank, clean ball handler, can work in traffic when playing midfield, has good set of hands and a neat kick (both goals and field kick).
I've watched him kick bags of goals in opposition, coached him on a football trip in Darwin last year and watched him a fair bit at Sandy in their finals campaign this year.
My knock on him would be that he doesn't have explosive speed/leap for a 193cm forward.

But he has enough going for him to play senior football at AFL I think.

Yeah his highlights look real good. Only second highlights I've bothered watching this year. What's his flaws?

That can be an absolute killer at AFL level for a forward.

Albert Parker has he played as a defender?

Football brain, hands and good field kick to go with his height for me equals a good second/third tall defender if he doesn't make it as a forward.

193cm without pace or leap. That's doesn't breed confidence

AFL.com.au understands Geelong, Collingwood, Sydney and Gold Coast have all done work on the unassuming intercept defender, expressing varying levels of interest.

The Cats have watched Sofronidis play live on multiple occasions this year with Collegians coached by former Melbourne and Geelong defender Jared Rivers, who played with Andrew Mackie at Kardinia Park and has maintained a close relationship with Geelong's GM of football.

The Magpies were interested onlookers when Sofronidis played an important role in the Grand Final win over St Kevin's at Elsternwick Park in September.

One club could make a move during the Rookie Draft on November 22, but clubs are believed to be interested in exploring a trial during the pre-season supplemental selection period (SSP).
Sofronidis was named at half-back in the VAFA premier team of the year after earning Big V selection mid-season, before winning Collegians' best and fairest.

The 194cm mobile backman was planning to live overseas this year but chose to return to Melbourne and play again after missing the pre-season and first three games of the campaign.

194cm intercepting defender starring in the VAFA. Maybe pick him up with a late National Draft pick before Geelong snap him up in the rookie draft?
Yeah, if Geelong are interested, or any of those clubs, they have a pick before us.

These are his flaws according to the Rookie me guys- who are obviously much more informed than me.

“Part of that comes with enhanced composure and decision making. Simpson tends to play to his strengths and flick the ball off rather quickly, so could benefit from backing his pace to break from the coalface with first possession, rather than purely doing so via handball receives on the outside.

Simpson is also looking to expand on his versatility in the sense of nailing down a definite second position. He got to explore a couple of different roles this year, albeit thriving most when playing on-ball, and senses that he'll either have to spend more time forward or on the outside at senior level.”

Personally I don’t see these as really notable flaws. As Kingy has banged on about a lot recently, being a ‘leg driver’ from stoppage is a mindset and can be developed if you’ve got the physical traits too do it. He can do it and does it sometimes, just not enough yet.

For me the main knocks on him are his height. Ideally he would be a couple of inches taller in the high 180cms.

Also in a perfect world he’d be averaging high 20’s rather than low 20’s (which I assume he is off the the top of my head). But given he’s a high impact player I don’t see that as a massive issue either.
