I get that everyone wants to draft Gary Ablett Jr or the Bont with every pick but Zach Merrett is a 3x All-Australian midfielder. If McKercher is Zach Merrett then we've drafted well.
I don't know Zach Merrett but I went to school with some of the previous generation and all of them could football, and all of them could handle themselves in any situation. I doubt any would take a backward step. I suspect like a lot of younger blokes with a lot of talent Zach has been taught to keep his cool from a young age.

We wont be winning 10 games with him in the side. No room for guys scared of any contact.
Didn’t he make it to a GF with Collingwood and kick 3 goals in the first half? They’d have won more than 10 games that year.
That would indicate a team is capable of success with him in it - aversion to contact or not.

And won zero finals. I am not blaming it all on Merrett, but there are reasons why they have never become better than they have.

These guys I consider ahead now or will be ahead of stick man Sleevo on the HFF .
Z Duursma , P Curtis , T Thomas , E Ford , B George , The Bull
George will be abit slower. Coming off serious injury and never played against big bodies I think 9-12 games would be a win this season

And that was his prime. And it was 2 goals, and then went missing in the second half. He's a big reason they lost the GF.

Notice how they went on to win one after they got rid of him.

What a strange take on a small forward. He kicked 2 first half goals in biggest game of the season that was a low scoring game and still manages to be major reason they lost….

He is also our 2nd highest goal scorer. So in the minimum is effective for us. Not sure he is in our best 22 in next few years but let’s not go crazy on where he sits on our list.

I think its wild to put any sizeable amount of blame on Merrett for that.

But, besides that, I don't think that McKercher having a similar skillset means that he will never win a final.

I would take a 3x AA with one of our top picks.

Merrett is a jet. If Mckertcher became Zerrett as a player we would be laughing. I think he has a better outside game then Merrett and better finisher then Zerrett aswell however.
Would say less of an inside player though

Which suits us down to a T.

Simpkin inside
LDU inside
Thomas inside/outside
Phillips inside
Wardlaw inside
Sheezel outside
Scott outside
Mckercher outside

Hahah ch 7 you muppets…
” time is running out for clarko….” As the lead in story For sport tonight
then gelmi leads with story….today was the cut off time for trading picks and the eagles still hold number one…but north can trade up for pick one on draft night.
what a useless nothing news piece…less than 20 seconds…for the lead story…..…..they really want us to trade away for pick one ….talk about getting desperate for the story they want……😂😂

This is what media is now.

Create a story line and then report on the machinations of that and what they want to happen.

I'm just concerned how he uses the ball.
This guy gets it! Finally.

I get Atley vibes when he runs full tilt and kicks the ball. He’s good under 30m with dinky passes, thats where the Merret comparison sits.

We've finished 18th and 17th in the last two years and people are worried about players getting pushed out........😂
We’ve finished 18th and 17th in the last two years and I’m worried that while we continue to trot out the AFL’s worst backline in living memory and fail to address it we’ll finish down there every year no matter how good our midfield is

There's something nagging me about McKercher. The more I see of him, the more concerned I'm getting.

Out of the top 6 I think Sanders in the most rounded prospect, all the rest I have at least some level of concern about how their game will transition to AFL.

Reid - has he just been bullying smaller players? No obvious best position and not the best tank. May end up more Cam Rayner than Dustin Martin.

Watson - Height obviously, how will he adjust his game to bigger bodies. Versatility at AFL level.

McKercher - One sided, inconsistent kicking. Versatility? He shrugs tackles quite easily in juniors but I don’t think he’ll get away with that at AFL level. Defensive intent isn’t the best either.

Duursma - On the softer side, will his game transition to AFL? Do a he have enough tools to be able to transition to the midfield?

Curtin - Best position? Can he play as a genuine tall or will he just be a tall flanker.

Good points.

Don’t see Duursma as a fit whatsoever.
