Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reports the Saints have interest in free agent QB Baker Mayfield.

The Saints were high on Mayfield ahead of the 2018 draft, according to Breer, and may have to settle on him if they miss out on Derek Carr. Re-signing with the Rams remains in play for Mayfield and he's been linked as a fallback option for the Ravens, who hired Mayfield's ex-OC Todd Monken. Teams are viewing Mayfield as a higher upside bridge than free agent Jimmy Garoppolo after a late season surge with the Rams. Mayfield's 2023 landing spot will be tied to what happens with Carr and Lamar Jackson this offseason.

ESPN's Dan Graziano reports the price has "likely gone to $50 million a year or more" for Eagles QB Jalen Hurts.

Eagles GM Howie Roseman said the team hopes to sign Hurts early in the offseason. With Justin Herbert, Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson all due extensions, the Eagles want to get out ahead on Hurts, who is in the final year of his contract. Hurts doesn't have a fifth-year option as a second-round pick and is likely to be the first of the QB extensions. Hurts' contract could be structured similar to the deal the Eagles gave Carson Wentz in 2019, with Hurts signing a four-year deal with 80% of it guaranteed.

The Athletic's Nate Taylor writes the Chiefs are "expected" to place the franchise tag on LT Orlando Brown again.

Brown played on the tag last year, briefly threatening to not report to camp before showing up on time. Since coming over for the Ravens in a trade, Brown has been stellar if not exceptional, and would probably profile as one of the five best free agents on the market if he got there. Taylor also writes that Brown turned down a six-year, $139 million deal with a $30.25 million signing bonus last offseason.

ProFootballTalk reports that the Giants are likely to franchise tag QB Daniel Jones.

ProFootballTalk has confirmed that Jones switched agents, which indicates that he is not satisfied with how negotiations have been going with the Giants on a new contract. If Jones is ultimately seeking more than the Giants are willing to pay, that would set up the fifth-year quarterback to receive the franchise tag. The franchise tag would cost the Giants just over $32 million but doesn't require a commitment beyond 2023. One downside of using the tag on Jones is that the option would not be available for Saquon Barkley, who is also an impending free agent. As a result, Barkley could hit the open market, potentially creating a huge payday for the sixth-year running back.

Not taking on the 5th year option could end up costing them big time $10m if they can't get a deal done, and/or Barkley walks.

Meh, Jones isn't worth a long term deal. Best off FT'ing him. If he doesn't want to play and sits out **** him, I reckon Daboll could still get production out of some cheaper QB. To at which point Jones comes grovelling back.

If I'm the Bears I'd be going for Young. At least see what you can get for Fields.

Whichever way they do intend to go, it is in their best interest to make us all believe from the outside that they are willing or going to take a QB at 1.

I expect most of the noise to be just that.

This philosophy has always seemed counterproductive to me, if that was the case all youd be doing is driving away business.

"Oh well the Bears are taking a QB, guess we should trade with the Cards instead then"

The smart thing for the Bears to do is trade pick 1 and have it feature a 1 and 2 next season and a 1 this year. If Fields is still not progressing use it to trade up for a better QB next season. Young isnt the answer.

chatgpt sitting on the fence...

It is difficult to make a definitive answer as it depends on a number of factors, such as the Bears' specific needs and evaluation of the two quarterbacks.

Bryce Young is a highly-touted quarterback who had a successful freshman season at the University of Alabama. He possesses impressive athleticism, accuracy, and decision-making skills, which are all highly valued traits in a quarterback. However, he has only played one season at the college level and it remains to be seen how he will develop over time.
On the other hand, Justin Fields was also highly touted coming out of college and was drafted by the Bears in the first round for a reason. He has shown flashes of brilliance in his rookie season and possesses a strong arm, excellent mobility, and a good football IQ. Like Young, it remains to be seen how Fields will develop over time.
Ultimately, the decision to move away from Fields for Young would depend on the Bears' evaluation of both players and their specific needs. It would also depend on whether the Bears are willing to give up on Fields after only one season, which could be seen as premature.

I would think " we are sorted at QB, first pick for sale, step right up and make your bids" works far better. :tearsofjoy:

They'll be doing that anyway.

Why are they suggesting Fields has only played one season? They do know hes been in the league for two right?

wait what, no, you must be wrong
