The smart thing for the Bears to do is trade pick 1 and have it feature a 1 and 2 next season and a 1 this year. If Fields is still not progressing use it to trade up for a better QB next season. Young isnt the answer.
Let everyone think you are going for a QB and let someone get spooked into giving you a kings ransom for a pick you never intended on using

Carr is 0-6 in games where the temperature is under 37 degrees. In those six games, he has never scored more than 17 points, and has only one game with a passer rating over 78.

In those games, he has failed to top 222 passing yards in five out of six contests, has never thrown more than one touchdown in any game, and has thrown a total of eight interceptions
so still an upgrade on Wilson?

Jets so thirsty, Teddy laughing at the idea of Carr being a first ballot HOF sums it up well.

Leading the jets to a Superbowl win would be on a par with leading the browns to one. So pretty much an automatic entry to canton - but not sure it's a realistic outcome to think they'd win one.

They're not getting him for nothing though. He's going to get a contract in the 30-35mil range you'd reckon, maybe higher.

That's a lot of money to invest in a QB who over the course of his career has shown that he's nothing more than painfully average. Would be such a Jets thing to do to sign him.
QB money is really strange.

You've got the elite to good Rogers $50m- Tannehill $30m.

Then a few at the prove it level $15m-$10m in Winston, Mayfield and Mariota.

The rest are rookie deals or back up money.

So you're investing in a rookie contract or you're going after a good or above. The price for that $30m or more. Carr is worth that compared to his peers at the good end of the list.

They already have one undeserving QB in the HOF with Namath so figure Carr is good enough also.

I dont see why we give up a 1st for him. If the Packers really want rid of him and he wants to go, no way am I giving a 1st for what could be a 1 year deal.

As GG.exe and I were ruminating about a few days ago, there is elite and then there are rookie deals....if winning a championship is the objective then there are 10-15 QBs on that list who have no right earning the money they do.

They ain't winning a championship today, they won't be part of a team that develops into a championship team so what's the point.

Derek Carr to the Jets for $40M+ is insane. Factor in the lost opportunity cost of the draft capital spent on Wilson (and his salary cap number), then its Pick 2, $50M per year and you still not winning a SuperBowl.

Some interesting stuff in here, I didnt realise Kyle Hamilton had as good of a year as he had, in fact I thought he struggled, PFF graded him the best safety in the entire league (not that PFF are the be all and end all but still)

I wanna see a bit more from Herbert before he’s there with burrow. Both got more than enough talent around them even though Herbert’s wr’s been out a little. Burrow was more than fine without chase and he’s just unflappable if that’s even a word. Gets hit all day long and he just still gets it done. His already proven in big moments

I mean we’re nit picking now when you speak about the great players and compare them. But to take burrow out of the number 1 spot and demote him and then put someone else there IMO would want to be more than an even call with who’s better. You’d want to be 100% that the person you’re putting in ahead is better

I'm not saying anyone who would take Burrow is wrong, there is no massive gap between them, it's just a personal opinion on a near 50/50

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports the Titans released Robert Woods.

It was a forgettable season for Woods in Tennessee, where the declining veteran caught 49 passes for 487 yards and posted a career-worst 9.9 yards per reception. Woods was set to be a $14.6 million hit against the salary cap in 2023 -- far too high for a veteran who profiles as a team's WR3 or WR4. Look for Woods to ink a one-year deal for a team that could use him in a complementary role.

Titans released LT Taylor Lewan.

Tennessee clears $14.8 million in cap space with the move. Lewan missed almost the entire 2022 season with a knee injury he suffered in Week 2, and the veteran is widely expected to retire this offseason. The former No. 11 overall pick in 2014 has missed 30 games the last three years to various injuries. Without Lewan, the Titans offensive line was graded by Pro Football Focus as the league's worst pass-blocking unit in 2022.

Titans released LB Zach Cunningham.

Cunningham's release saves Tennessee $8.9 million while incurring a $4.5 million dead cap hit. Typically a run-stuffing machine, Cunningham's numbers took a dive in 2022. He totaled 24 tackles with no TFLs across six games while bouncing in and out of the lineup because of an elbow issue. He ultimately ended the year on injured reserve. Expect another team to take a flyer on Cunningham in hopes of helping him rebound.

The Athletic's Ben Standig reports the Commanders are expected to assign the franchise tag to DT Daron Payne.

A first-round pick in 2018, Payne had been a solid defensive tackle since being drafted, but the Commanders did not reach an agreement on an extension. Instead, they let him play out his fifth-year option only for the 25-year-old to post career numbers across the board. He tallied 11.5 sacks and 18 TFLs en route to his first Pro Bowl nod. The franchise tag for Payne will cost Washington $18.9 million.
