I see he treated Grimes and De Goey. I assume they went to him overseas.

With the below type of treatment mentioned, i wonder if he secretly had something to do with Essendon over their suspect period ;);)

Many of the German doctor's treatments are seen as controversial, including using injections of a substance called Hyalart,[4] extracted from the crest of cockerels, which is claimed to help lubricate knee injuries and take away the pain. He has also injected Myo-Melcain, which is the painkiller Procaine in a honey solution, or Actovegin into patients' muscles.[citation needed]
He’s also the same doctor who treats serious hamstring issue with horse or calf blood treatments (can’t remember which). Many players from Europe and the USA have seen him and far, far fewer hamstring issues after treatment.

Adams moved to long-term injury list - won't play this year.

Very sad for Marcus - fingers crossed he can come back from this terrible set-back.

Definitely - his long-term health is the most important thing.

Writing has been on the wall for this basically since he suffered it. Re-signing Dizzy was absolutely necessary, and I expect our empty list spot will be used on a tall defender through the pre-season supplemental period.

Bit of a loss even if he couldn’t make his way back in he was a big mature body and excellent back up hopefully he can heal and come back in 2024. Time for Jack Payne to make that spot his own now .

As i posted late last year, with Marcus's brother also being impacted severely to the point that his quality of life has forever been changed due to a head injury from one punch king hit, I dont think we'll see Marcus play again but i am glad to hear the club is siupporting him and sticking by him.

Unfortunate for Marcus personally b/c his form in 22 was unreal but I hope he does what' best in his life and move fwd like Jus Clark, Matty McGuire did years before - our key defenders havent had much luck with concussion.

Wonder if we go big with that extra spot or pick Riley Greene or Arnold from the VFL/?

So sad for Marcus.

My son's concussion symptoms two years down the track have gone, but he has been told his priority for the rest of his life is to not get another concussion.

Hope Marcus makes the same choices and puts his health before contact sport.

You'd have to think at his age and given the nature of the injury and the obvious issues he's having with it, his career will be done. Very sad. Say what you like about how they finished the year but there was no doubt that him and Joe were our two best KPP's for the first half of last year, which helped having one up forward and down back.

Does anyone know what this means in terms of replacements for this year? Can we still do that?

the article above at the bottom says - The move will open up a spot on the Lions’ list via the AFL Pre-Season Supplemental Selection period.

Very sad news ! Hope Marcus can make it back , wish him all the best.:yes we can replace his spot while he is on the long term injury list, if we can find another key defender. ?

Any out there

I also wonder if it was for this reason Ryan Lester was retained for 23.

I was somone who thought Ryan should ve been kept on anyway but i no he has his knockers but very smart that he is still on the list b/c he is a very good back up with us being down to Harris, Darcy G and Payne as the remain as the sole KPD although maybe Fullaon gets trained up in the spot. We are pretty thin all of a sudden in the KPD area tho.

Very sad for Marcus. Health does have to come first. Hopefully a year of recovery will give him a chance to start fresh in 2024.

I think this now opens a spot on the list that can be used via the Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period. I wonder if Fischer McAsey would benefit from a fresh start.

Problem is that Fullerton is depth for 3 positions (Back, ruck and forward bar Smith/Lane coming on), so we do need an actual tall defender. This will most likely be a state league or VFL call up at this point in the preseason. And don't expect them to play this year as Lester would be the man to come in for injuries.

Josh Walker to make a return? Knows our system and would be a cheap insurance policy. I thought he was reliable when he played with us and was not terrible when we let him go. He was clearly behind Andrews, Marcus and Payne and was surplus to needs more than anything.

He didn't have a huge opportunity to play with freedom in a poor North Melbourne side, and was arguably delisted to make way for youth and their next rebuild.

He only turned 30 in November so has plenty of footy left in him.

Good decision by Marcus, and I hope he either can recover and feel comfortable playing footy again, or live a comfortable and good life on his own terms. Nothing is worth long term issues with your brain. Nothing.

He will be a massive loss for us. More so than the team composition.. but just him playing one on one was really reassuring to me at least.

Others have mentioned how we would have had some sneaking suspicions about this, so I'm sure there is a lot of planning being done about this and we will do our best.

Andrews getting back to his best, and allowing Payne to really grow into the team and cement his spot, I still have confidence in our ability.

Best of luck to Marcus and this coming year.

I would have thought Adams replacement would be a very good chance to play at some point during the season. Behind Andrews and Payne we don't have another 'full size' key defender anymore.

How about Sam Skinner as well ;)

I like it - Josh is a very dependable player and someone you could trust moreso than a guy that has never played afl. There could aslo be a very unlucky 18 /19yo that missed out being drafted that was somewhat rated.

I dont know footy as well as a lot of you, but he looked very average for Port and is to slow for me and lacks footy IQ - at least to me. Walker may have slowed down but i think he has good footy iq. Josh may also have completely let himself go post footy to knowing he was out lol
