pendlebury and now ziebell have made calls on captaincy

i wouldnt be suprised if heppell stands down from essendon captaincy soon

wonder when we will find out whether zorko decides to pass the baton on or not?
With the attitude he has so far taken into the pre-season, I would be happy enough for him to remain Captain.
What happened towards the end of last year May have been the kick up the butt that he needed.

Seems like we're trying to pencil in a gorilla back who can play against the big key forwards. Joyce was injured during a Tom Hawkins tackle, seems to be manning Taberman in pictures etc. He looks a lot more like-for-like when we compare which forwards Adams would usually take on.

I had a look through Ethan Philips draft profile videos, he seems more of a Harris Andrews style player than Adams. Read the play, float across, intercept mark etc.

Just looking our current incumbents, who could play in the backs and have some size.

Berry: I’d say yes but unlikely as we would lose an important wing.

Rayner: unlikely, needs to play more forward time.

Prior: I think would be a good option. I think he may struggle to be in the 22 if he aims for midfield or wing.

Payne: the obvious replacement. Needs more mongrel though.

Michael’s and McKenna also in the hunt.

I wish Adams all the best in whatever happens from now. He will be sorely missed.

That's weird, I was just thinking of Berry down back and looking at his height (192cm) before reading your post.

The wing role would be easier to fill than a tall, strong back and he does have a defensive edge; like when he tagged Clayton Oliver into oblivion.

Imagine the maulings he and Starc would hand out!

But as with everyone else I think Pain gets the nod.

I’ve been suggesting Berry down back for for ages. He’s got height, good defensive lockdown skills, and would be ideal on the oppositions 3rd tall, behind Andrews and Payne. I agree that the wing is easier to fill with my pick being Ashcroft and McCluggage locking down those role.

Backs
Berry Payne Starcevich
Coleman Andrews Rich/Wilmot/McKenna

I think Berry has more upside than Gardiner in the backline. Rotate Wilmot and McKenna off the backline for speed. With the depth on the list, I think the team will be changing week by week to depending on the opposition. I’m hoping that 2023 will produce more flexibility and adaptability by many of the players.

I think it's been raised quite a while ago but without Adams if Harris or Payne goes down we're in a bit of trouble as far as competent KPD's go.

Just hope someone on the list with at least the height (Fullarton ?? ) could step up.

The most likely scenario to me if we lose one of them is that Gunston goes down there on anything I've seen of the others , and the new guy from St. Kilda who isn't any world beater.

Or maybe we risk it and go short in the backline. We've got plenty of choices there .

Who knows , nothing's happened yet so we'll just have to see how the season unfolds.

Waiting for "what? you want our only depth forward/ruck Fullarton to play defense" pitch fork mob arrival now. Happened last time when it was brought up, it seems Fullarton is this greatest ever depth tall who can never ever be played in defense and the whole Gabba will come crashing down if it happens.

I think this is another opportunity (had several in the past) for Tommy to put his hand up and really cement his spot in the 22. Fingers crossed that Jed thinks he is up to it and fingers crossed again that Tom does the job.

It might have already been mentioned, but has this move already been made? Is Tommy training with the backline group?

He's the obvious.

And to me more suited in defence where he can just go for it .

He's been almost there a few times in the past but besides a quarter or two of promise has never been able to put a whole game together.

Whether he has any real defensive attributes I guess we'll find out.

I was actually implying that he was the only viable choice on the list Mpal.
