first few observations.

Berry, Daniher and Oscar running laps. Oscar running much better than I have seen in the past. Higher knee lift and longer stride.

Wilmot is vocal, no matter what he’s doing.

Dunkley has a big smile on his face while doing hand ball drills.
How did Nakia Cockatoo look?

I definitely didn’t see Marcus Adams there at all which is a bit worrying.
Carter Michael also seemed to be awol.
Jarryd Lyons was doing some quick run throughs at the beginning of the session but didn’t see him after that.

Zac Bailey running really well up near the front of the pack behind Harry and Hugh which was great to see.

For who asked just before, I thought Cockatoo looked really good and fit, moving well and good skills.

McKenna kicking skills were brilliant for a bloke who has been kicking a round ball for the last couple of years. A bit stockier than I remember him.
Solid and thick set in the legs, hopefully still got his pace.

Both Gunston and Dunkley both did all of the work and look fit.

Blake Coleman still struggling with the running.

And McKenna up near the front in the running as well?

Second photo I’ve seen of Cam where it looks like he enjoyed his preseason a bit more than most. Not ideal given his lack of a tank already and given how well he returned to pre season last year I am a bit surprised. How did he go with the running today briztoon Dalions ? Any improvement on previous years? We need this guy to take the next level.

I have seen him running better

Rayner was towards the back. By the end of the running session, Rayner would have been in the last third of the squad.

Blake Coleman was last by a margin, and I think Keidean was third last.

Top runners were Sharp, McCluggage, Bailey, McKenna (I think), and Robertson 5th.

Really appreciate all the insight briztoon and Dalions. Cheers.

RE comments about Rayner, I wonder if thoughts like "oh we've had such a great trade period and draft, now all we have to do is turn up and it's all just gonna happen for us" might pervade into the group. Time will tell I guess.

That’s a massive leap and good to see couple of days in baseless assumptions already being thrown out there

Chicken Little.

I don’t think it’s a team wide thing. As others have mentioned Rich, Zorko, Cockatoo etc all look to be in terrific nick comparatively to where they were last year. All I was comparing was how Cam returned after his reco and how diligent he was with that and getting into the shape of his life whereas it looks like those standards have dropped a little. Is that a little harsh? Maybe. But when you get paid $500k+ pa your job is to uphold those standards.

Anyway there is still plenty of time before round 1 to get right and like I said we need this guy to take the next step for us, because you could argue on talent alone he’d be top 5-6 on our list. I think he’ll bust his **** and be good to go once we get serious and round 1 rolls around.

I noticed during the off season he went over to New York with his girlfriend.
First chance for any of the boys to get away for a few years with Covid and all. So I would say like another mentioned he just enjoyed his holiday a bit too much.

We have a big squeeze on for spots on the team this year, probably the biggest since my time following the lions to be absolutely honest.

So he will work out soon enough that if he wants to keep his spot in the team then he will have to pull his finger out, I have no doubt he will get himself into shape pretty quick.

Where’s the evidence that’s he’s not in shape other than a couple of photos that tell you **** all?

Some I know this happens every pre season but the bullshit assumptions that get thrown around are mind blowing

Dalions and myself were out at training today, and watched the whole session. Well the main two hours of it. When we left it looked like they were doing barefoot cool down run throughs. I'd say the session was pretty much over, as there was a club employee at the top of the stand behind us, who videoed the whole training session, and he packed up and left, before we left.

Rayner noticeably struggled with the running sessions, both the repeat 400 meters, and the repeat 100 meters. It was something we both commented on. Honestly there wasn't a lot of running. But with todays heat, that's understandable. Rayner is also noticeably thicker than he was last preseason, and not really in an athletic sense.

I have a lot more observations from today, but I've held back as I do not know how relevant they are.

I have no doubt that Cam will be in tip top shape, come round 1.

When I first sighted Cam Rayner at training last evening my first thought was he's matured - more of a man than a boy now.

I noticed him walking next to Lachie Neale - Lachie has massive calf and leg definition but Cam's calves weren't far behind, very cut. I later spent some time chatting to Cam and he certainly didn't look to be carrying any excess weight. He's a solid bloke who's not built for running like Sharp and Lugger are.

I reckon he'll be just fine. I expect him to carry on with the tackle-busting play we started to see last year, and be a force!
