So Essendon have named Zach Merrett as their new captain.
First pre-season game this Friday, no indication of our leadership group, but presumably will be announced in the near future.
Last year's elevation of Mills was reported 2 Feb.
Heeney in an interview recently put his hand up for a leadership role. I think it's generally agreed that Gulden is a future (present?) leader.
Last year our leadership group was seven strong - Mills, Parker, Rampe (captains) plus JPK (after stepping down as skipper), Cunningham, Franklin & Papley.
JPK obviously gone. Franklin concentrating on his own game this season?
Cunningham retained, even though he lost his place in the team last season? IMO on-field performances should not be the sole criteria for a leadership position (and he has a contract to the end of 2024).
Harry does seem well respected around the place and was a finalist in the 2022 Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award for his work as a Redkite Ambassador.
I assume Mills & Parker will be retained and maybe Rampe steps down to concentrate on his own game and we go with two captains this year?
Rampe stays in the leadership group (as JPK did last year), along with Papley & Cunningham and Gulden, Heeney take the place of Franklin & Kennedy.
So in my suggested scenario that would leave;
Co-captains Mills, Parker
Leadership group members Cunningham, Gulden, Heeney, Papley & Rampe.
Maintains a seven man leadership group but allows for a rejuvenation of that group.
EDIT;
Great minds think alike ????

bedford & caesar88 have put the fear of God in the Swans media team.
