Everyone has PTSD on Butters though, he fecked us all last year..
He had a great preseason last year too but remember there was a patch where the weekly threads were almost entirely made up of people venting about Butters- always injured or muppeting.
I think we all just can’t go through that again… he’s built like a feather, very easily injured- need someone reliable at $500k +
That’s why I’m avoiding Rozee too. I was initially very high on him but soured purely becuase Port are forecast to run through frequent mid rotations, and who knows what Ken might do. I picked Butters last year and too often he was either injured or copped a bump and his scoring dried up. I would rather go with a Cogs or Moore type. Cogs will play pure mid and Moore is one of the few that can rack up the points in a HF role

It’s a fair point on Rozee, but he became a star when added to the midfield and elevates those around him in there. I think Butters will play more wing/HF with JHF coming in but no doubt Rozee will spend some time forward. I think Rozee breaks out this year, 105 avg.

Rozee will be the number one mid at Port. You think that a club champion, All Australian will have his midfield minutes reduced this year after he turned his career around after moving into the mids? Even Hinkley is not that stupid!

Goal kicking midfielder. What more could you ask for from a SC perspective.

Rozee plays midfield if Kenny wants to keep his job.

Life being busy means I haven't watched any footy, haven't read any reports/articles, haven't read the board, and haven't touched my team since the team picker. Watch me have my best season yet lol, because I won't over think any decisions like I do every other year. I reckon I'll just go safe with a guns n rookies side (assuming there's enough cash cows).

I'll definitely be relying on you legends for rookie selections before round 1 though.

Hope you're all well fellas! Hopefully I'll be more active once the season starts.

Definitely missing the banter.

❤️

Welcome back stranger - there simply just not enough rookies this year :p

I’ve done the opposite of what you’ve done this year and tinkered with my team so much - I’ve forgotten my original plans - so stuff it MPM all the way baby! o_O

Very much settled on this midfield and defence. I think we can jump on Daicos early before he cops a tag later in the year. Strategic trade away when it does happen.

Cumming taking kick ins is a no brainer pick for me. His rebounding is the best part of his game so the extra few kicks are a huge bonus.

Safe midfield. Macrae’s tackling efficiency should bounce back above into the 60% mark again this season. His average will most likely rise again.

Neale always dominates the first half of the year. Don’t want to lose any points here early.

I suspect you may need to go deeper in the mid as the rookie mids don’t appear. Not sure we see Roberts and Baker round 1.

Didn't Neale pick up a knock or two in the match sim game last week?
That's a lot of investment in the mids. Might pay off for you.
Not sure if you are hiding your forward line because you got some secret sauce or you just forgot the second attachment.

Got a knock to the quad and then a dislocated finger but trained strongly this week. 100% fine.

Not settled on the rest yet - waiting for some preseason games first.

Not sure if this is the right thread?

I've really got into trying to quantify all aspects of super coach. And I made a crude model that projects scores over the season for a given starting side, using a bunch of assumptions, including an assumed average for each player and some consideration of injury risk.

I used ran through 4 teams:
  • best one i could find/make (13 keepers)
  • mid price madness (12 keepers)
  • super promos and rookies (13 keepers)
  • 14 keepers.

For all of the teams I used 23 trades on upgrading the team to 22 keepers. I did this by adjusting the assumed average of promos traded in (and their price) during the season.

The graph below is season average to that point, as opposed to round average. The results aren't that surprising:
  • MPM starts well but it drops away as it has more keepers to bring in, so it brings in keepers with a slightly lower average
  • the 14 keeper team comes home strong as for the opposite reasons that the MPM team falls away.

It's very rough, but I think it will be some use for trying to assess different teams.

I've really done it because I enjoy this sort of stuff, not because i'm too confident that it's the key to success. It will only be as good as its assumptions, so if my guesses of averages are bad then my team will be bad.

It's probably made me realise that with 36 trades there are different ways to use them. And the more keepers you have, then the more trades you can spend on sideswaysing or injury or correction trades.

Is there reason why some are going on 1 uber d1 ,d2 daicos route. Why not a d3 prem or is it because of the lack rookie options atm

Try premo D1 Yeo D2

It's because of the perceived abundance of defensive rookies
