Also I just realised it's going to be 36 degrees and sunny for the game on Sunday. How do we see such extreme heat affecting the game and the teams?

Injury situation pretty similar for both teams. Only 1 player likely to be missing (Bedford would have been a cert for GWS, and Worrall I think likely for Crows). If Daniels doesn't play, that's a second out for GWS, but still seems a possibility to play. Crouch was never likely to play for Crows.

In the Mix:

Small forward Brent Daniels is in the hunt to make a long-awaited return to the game in the opening round, more than 18 months after his last appearance for the GIANTS. The 23-year-old missed all of 2022 and hasn't played a game since round 21, 2021, due to repeated hamstring issues that led to him and young gun Conor Stone heading to visit renowned soft tissue specialists at the University of Wisconsin last September. Defender Jack Buckley could also make his long-awaited return having not featured for the GIANTS since suffering an ACL injury in 2021. Number one draft pick Aaron Cadman could make his AFL debut alongside fellow draftee Harry Rowston with untried halfback Josh Fahey also in the mix to debut after missing the 2022 season with a shoulder injury. The GIANTS will start the new campaign without off-season acquisition Toby Bedford after the former Demon damaged his hamstring tendon last month. Bedford had been a standout on the track up until that point and looked a certain starter in round one but is now set to miss at least the first month of the season.

In the Mix:

Brent Daniels
Jack Buckley Aaron Cadman Harry Rowston Josh Fahey
Pretty much threw every possibility into that article! Except for the Easter Bunny being selected on the wing. Maybe in a few weeks?

Pissing me off how these injuries just appear after the injury report is released for the week!
Agree. Based on what the club stated it seems to not be good news - although Preuss consulting a surgeon could just be a precaution and he’ll hopefully be back soon.

“Xavier O’Halloran was unavailable for selection after recently injuring his quad, which will see him sidelined for several weeks.

Also unavailable is ruck Braydon Preuss who is consulting a surgeon following the recent emergence of back pain related to a previous injury.
Preuss is continuing to be assessed by the club’s medical team with a timeline on his return to be confirmed following the consultations.”

Congratulations on Leek and Wehr getting spots in the starting line-up. Wehr has looked very composed in his games last year.
One contrast between Giants and Crows line-ups is across half forward.
Giants have two old dogs of war, Lloyd and Ward, Crows have Rachelle and Keays.
And finally, it's a bit weird Perryman subject to interchange resolution. For me, he should start each week!

Perryman will just be in the midfield rotation and is probably the 4th of those guys

Yeah, it's a case of truth in team (position) selection - for a change. Wehr's selected as a winger, hence why he's on field. Pez is in that inside midfield rotation of Green, Cogs, Kelly, him & ... possibly Daniels (or a mix of Ward & Daniels, maybe).

And now Phil Davis is injured

Exciting for him, been over a year apparantly been a good performer on the track should give us another option, big year for him
