Cripps had issues 2 years ago, he had a back problem but kept playing. He was a liability a lot of the time. It is doing no one any favours playing injured.

If he is injured, rest him. If he is out of form or not putting in effort, drop him.

Either way - don't play him and let him get his body/mind right for a couple of weeks, and see what others have to offer - e.g. if Dow gets continuity and does okay he may have trade value at end of year or stay at the club. As it stands Dow leaves the club and we get nothing.
Agree 100%; I did find it interesting though that Voss didn't use a standard cliche about the players & their bodies at this time of year.

Didn't watch a second of this miserable iteration of our club.

Dow had 7 possessions at 71% and 3 tackles in 23mins of game time. In a team that barely laid a glove on their opponent in the second half. Could have easily translated to a 21 possession 9 tackle game with 60% game time.

How did the ed Curnow tag go?

It’s a flipping disgrace he continues to be absolutely shafted, unmitigated disgrace

Wtaf are we playing EdCurnow for, seasons cooked, he’s cooked and yet the same bullshit in the midfield over and over again

Voss deserves everything he gets, mind numbing stubbornness that has the same slow players in the midfield bounce after bounce, game after game in the vain hope it will just turn around

Putting Kennedy at half back when Hewitt had played in that position regularly at Sydney. Keeping Cripps in the middle forever and a day.

I think this off-season will be the off-season this club has needed, it will be brutal

I found Voss' reaction to the Cripps not being right during the presser very interesting, I am no body language expert, but seemed to bristle & placed the onus back on Cripps to improve.

It's worth mentioning he was wearing an ankle brace. He badly rolled it/got stepped on a couple weeks ago and was in fair doubt to play the next week but got up, but has since been in a brace. He's obviously not fit and it's not even hidden. He's probably not helping us right now with this injury, perhaps they were thinking with a bye coming up just play through it for a few weeks then rest at the bye.

Yes, it should be that clear cut.

Hell, Cripps should drop himself if need be.

The only saving grace for me about the Blues lamentable performance is working with a bunch of well and truly disgruntled Eagles fans, so I can give them a mouthful of lip without too many comebacks, their reserves side got hammered by even more which is even nicer for me since I hate them, truth is though we're not much better than the Eagles, most of whom couldn't get a kick in a stampede, maybe we'll make the finals next year.

Same midfield group that was busting out of the middle last year?
More often than not most likely Cripps delivering to a player moving towards goal last year .
This year for whatever reason he seems to be under more pressure not able to get his arms clear and his clearances are to players at the side or back of the contest or nullified altogether .

They might beat us.

On a positive note,
I really like Plow with longer hair.
Nice!
Good to see someone broke free from that chop-happy barbers they all attend.

Here's a stat for you all to ponder.

In the last 4 games.

The Weagles have lost by an average of 90 points.

And still kicked more goals than Carlton.

With 2 coleman medallists parked up forward!
That option isn't any more appealing than what's happening now. One isn't better than the other, they are both shithouse. I can't Imagine that we'd be happy losing games by 90 points, regardless of whether we are scoring more or not.

90 point loss is incoming some time soon. I’ve penciled in the Melbourne game

I'm sorry but enough is enough. I don't subscribe to this notion that we can't sack Voss because we sacked Bolton and Teague. If he isn't good enough then we can and absolutely should make the move as harsh as it is.

Ever since we appointed Voss all I have ever heard is that he is an exceptional leader and relationship builder, but that he lacks in the strategy/tactics department. Like is a senior coach being tactically naive and incompetent not the biggest red flag? That's like trying to have kids with someone who's infertile. It's just not gonna work!

And people might say that we need to get more support around Voss. But all of the assistants were signed in the Voss era. Hamill, Hansen, Clarke, Lonergan, Ebert were all signed in the Voss era. Teague on the other hand had all the assistants from past regimes yet his coaching record is eerily similar to Voss. Now I'm not suggesting that we should've kept Teague ( I was Teague out) , but there is basically no difference between the 2. If anything we are worse under Voss. In fact I'd rather Teague because although we couldn't defend at least we could hit the scoreboard and were somewhat entertaining. We look lifeless under Voss.

With Voss we thought that players would be picked based on form and that selection integrity would be honoured. But it has gotten worse under Voss. Zac Fisher gets 30+ in the VFL playing as an inside mid but then comes into the seniors and plays as a forward. Brodie Kemp plays intercept defender in VFL but then plays as a lockdown in seniors. TDK plays ruck in VFL but then gets plonked into the forward line in seniors when Pitto plays. And then guys like Dow and Binns work their socks off but never get rewarded. They may not be best 22 but at some point you have to reward consistent form just to set a strong precedent.

And some of Voss' positional moves are just moronic. Why has Kennedy spent half the year in defence? Why has Ed Curnow essentially played every game? Why is our 3rd best goalkicker in McGovern not playing forward? We can't even kick above 60 and yet absolutely nothing has been done to address our forward line. Even Charlie and Harry are playing garbage because they are surrounded by trash.

I mean the season is literally meaningless and we haven't even had our BYE. It means nothing if we beat the suns or hawks or whoever it is. When I think of success under Voss I think of us finishing 6-8th. And that's not success. I don't see us being a constant premiership threat under Voss. Essendon were in our position last year, where the players looked devoid of confidence, they didn't believe in Rutten and at board level they were just as bad if not worse than us. I mean they literally sacked someone after 2 days of appointing him because of his religious beliefs. They were well and truly in the mud. But then they go and get a senior coach that actually has football acumen and look at the difference it makes.

The board also needs to go, as it is just full of corporates who only care about money instead of on-field results. And some players need to be moved on also. But all the best coaches are the ones who are able to get the best out of the players at their disposal and have levers to pull when things aren't going well. Voss just chooses to not make any changes because he is either incredibly stubborn or naive. And I've just had enough of this club. Clubs like bombers, crows, saints, even hawks and giants already look like they have overtaken us.

Anyway that's all from me. Happy as always to have a discussion with anyone over all of this.

Which is why I was surprised Voss didn't mention it......could this be Voss sending a subtle message to the group, that if you take the field then you have no excuse??????

Maybe two pronged but it's just very Groundhog Day when it seems the problem lies elsewhere rather than sacking another coach.
I'm all for trying new players though.

It lies in multiple areas including the coach.

Anyone who thinks if Voss goes it will only be him and we just roll again with the same players isn’t paying attention.

Major shake up time is imminent, regardless of Voss staying or leaving.

Is it just me or basically every game that is going okay in the first half, our opposition make structural and tactical changes at half time, and then we have no answer.

When was the last time we pulled an in game tactical change against an opponent that had a meaningful impact on the game's trajectory?

dang. I was sure thatd work this time around...

Watched a small portion of the game back today, noticed, skills aside, we are our own worst enemy in translation from d50. We flood back in a fairly unorganised zone, but then when get the ball back we do nothing and choke ourselves through stagnation. Moving the ball we all seem to hold our lines rather than running back to goal and stretching the defence to open up lanes, we just hold the ball, sit and the oppo defence really doesnt work hard at all.

At one point yesterday we had both McKay and Curnow on the same wing

McKay marked it and then handballed sideways to Charlie.. they had no one to kick to. This is coaching and poor structure

It just seems everyone at the club are completely out of their depth. I believe they just have to go through this together and we’ll continue to see who steps up during tough times like this and who doesn’t. At least we know cerra looks captain material.

Martin did more in a 15 minute spurt than Mots, Durdin have done in 2 months (yes, i know Durdin is injured now).

Should have kicked three.

Decent return for him after a long absence.

Strongly agree. Solid return with minimal prep. People love to pot Jack Martin for the sake of it, its embarrassing to see from our supporters. Nearly all of his issues are with his body and that's really unfortunate for him and us. He was arguably our most important player in the first half and provided something different up forward that we haven't had all year.

Why doesn't Marchbank or Cunningham get slagged off in the same vein as Jack Martin does? They provide even less to our club due to their bodies failing them, which is a shame as well.

I don't get the hate.
