Really good win against a really good side. Thing about Collingwood is that they are good because they were the first to change their game plan to the new style. They do have a really good list but it's not as good as only 2 (now 3) losses for the season. Their fans could argue they are flat after a big game the week prior, didn't kick well etc but they have a fully fit list. We had 2.5 superstars out in Walsh, McKay and Cerra. Add Boyd, Silvagni and Williams as best 22 or possible best 22 players as well. I think Carlton are coming in a big big hurry.

Our new game plan, if you are a good footballer it's much easier to be a good footballer in a game plan that's more free and open and allows the team to win games. Our new game plan is pretty much Collingwood's. Do we do it better than Collingwood? There are areas of our team that are better. Our midfield and our forward line is arguably better. We had the talent but not the game plan to bring that out, now we do.

Does this mean we are a genuine premiership contender? Yes. But the 6 game winning streak where we have belted teams and beating teams 1 and 2 fairly comfortable justifies that. Keeping fit, we are a genuine threat. Does not mean things can't fall apart for us, but where we are now, particularly if we can get our core group of stars back, you could argue we are the best side in the competition at the moment.

First quarter IMO we were probably very defensive, pushed numbers behind the ball pretty hard where our success has been all about how we have setup forward of the ball. Opening the game up and giving ourselves options to be aggressive and move it fast forward and direct. We probably didn't do that as well early which is ok to start like that when the heat is in the game. As the game went on we looked to keep numbers forward and go on the attack. In the last quarter we looked like we could really get into them and ragdoll them, towards the end of the last quarter we were building momentum which is a real positive.

The big take away was that Collingwood could not out run us and we would not let them be the better pressure team on the ground. That takes away their two biggest traits, beating teams with leg speed, pressure and aggressive ball movements and we did it not just by defending well but doing those things better than them. We also avoided their intercept game this time by going direct, quickly and using a run and carry game.

1. No injuries, we are the best side in the competition at the moment which says a hell of a lot for what we could do come finals time but we need to remember, as quickly as things changed for us, they can just as quickly change back.

2. This is the best side we have fielded all century and that includes our 2000 side which was very good but was too much about how good Koutoufides was and whether he was present.

3. We did this with a lot of players out. Corey Durdin, McKay, Silvagni, Walsh, Boyd, Williams, Cerra for half the game and Kennedy. Our list is good. But there is not really a best 22, there's our core group and then there's who ever is fit and in the best form.

4. Next week feels like a real danger game and it's super important that we do not drop it. 8 point game.

Newman - He's in tremendous form. He had a stinker about a month ago and things just didn't look great for him, since then he's been excellent. His ability to just keep finding it and his kicking has been terrific.

Acres - Had a good game with a few mistakes. Couple of bad kicks and not bodylining the player when attempting to spoil will be things he would like to tidy up but all up it was a good game. He's been a very good recruit and a massive upgrade for us on the wing.

Cripps - Quiet game but effective. I don't mind that, we've been less Cripps focused and that's been good for us.

Cerra - He was having another blinder before going off with a hamstring problem. Need to get that right. He's become one of the better mids in the competition, really gone up a level. Maturity and game plan change has had a lot to do with it.

Hewett - One of his best games. Don't think I have seen him move this well. Was not that long ago he was struggling in the VFL. Will give selectors a headache when Kennedy comes back.

Weitering - He monstered Collingwood's forwards. His body work and intercepting was really top level stuff. He seems to have his strength back which went missing after doing his shoulder last season.

McGovern - Can't believe I spent so much time defending the club for recruiting him. Can't believe I spent so much time arguing that he would be a better option in defence than Plowman and better on the small forwards than Plowman too. Well he's finally proved me right. He's an integril part of our defence. He's a really rare talent. Try and find a player who can play as tall and small, has that height, strength, leg speed and leap as well as footy skills such as marking and kicking. Very hard to find. Had a great game manning all sizes of forwards, did a great job on Elliott.

Docherty - He's really taken his game to an enormous level. He's a top level mid, half back and winger now. His intensity, aggression and tackling is sublime. The run he provided in the middle was crucial with Walsh and then Cerra out. Tough as they come.

Saad - Every week there are crucial one on ones and lose balls to get to and he keeps winning those moments. Super important player for us.

Marchbank - He looked a little rusty out there and made a few mistakes but overall his game was good. He fits in really well with our new game style. It's going to be hard when Boyd is available again. His ability to mark and cover the ground as well as his pace means he fits into our modern style of play really really well.

Hollands - Another player who covers the ground really well. Great opportunity to play on Sidebottom who is one of the smarter wingers in the league. Really liked Hollands game. Hollands really liking our new style of play. Had a few learning moments where he went to ground or lost the ball playing for frees which he will learn from. But gee he was a good selection for us.

Charlie Curnow - He looks like a young Wayne Carey with his curly hair and body shape and he's playing like it. It's scary actually. Curnow is a generational talent, kicking 6 straight against the best full back in the game isn't easy.

Owies - Gotta love Matt Owies. He plays the game well, he made a poor mistake trying to pass one off but his game was good. His efforts and the way he can read the game to get out in space is really good.

Martin - Getting a really good look at what we have been missing. Jack has been excellent. Stronger than he looks, great at ground level and in the air, he's looking fit, he's playing well and he's a terrific kick for goal.

Dow - Genuine super-sub. Comes on for a quarter and a half for 12 disposals and plenty of impact and burst away from stoppages. Looked a bit nervous and lacking confidence early but settled in and setup quite a few goals breaking away from congestion and getting it forward quickly to one on ones. He's become a real sub specialist.

Cottrell - Not a heap of it but a tidy game all the same. Not sure he didn't have a defensive job.

Motlop - His improvement in the last few weeks has been exceptional. Kicking goals, his pressure is so much better and his tackling is really good. Loved how he played.

Kemp - Seems to be playing as an undersized CHB. Going ok, getting outmarked at times but we are willing to wear it if he can supply us with some run and ground level work and he's doing that.

Fogarty - Solid game. He's no star, he's there to apply pressure and go into the middle at times. His goal kicking has always been an issue and probably always will be. Still think with everyone fit that Durdin plays in his spot.

Cuningham - Another who had a quiet game but he laid tackles and gave some midfield relief. Not sure he wasn't doing a defensive job, I can't be sure of that.

Cincotta - Really liked his game. Has been handball happy but looked willing to kick more which is good because he's a good kick. He's a lot of what you want in a defender. Hard at it, toughh to beat, quick and good disposals. That goal he kicked was super crucial.

Pittonet - Quiet game, didn't do much, just competed.

DeKoning - Quiet game as well, just competed and brought it to ground up forward. Both rucks are vulnerable when taken forward, need to learn better defensive skills such as the ability to come over their opponent and make a spoil.

One thing that has not been mentioned much (i am too lazy to trawl through 36 pages lol) is how much we curtailed Issac Quaynor's influence last night, who is an excellent player who is having an AA season and probably going to finish 2nd in the Copeland Trophy.

He is one player from the filth in the past that we always had issues/trouble with.

Vossy clearly did his home work and our Mosquito Fleet pretty much well 'zapped' him !!!

It's that kind of methodical coaching and tactical nous that will hold us in good stead going forwards !
rippss
I enjoyed the koala hug on Cameron.
That was no koala hug, that was a drop bear attack

Pies for a fully healthy list have really not rested their players. Saw glimpses of Father Time catching up with Pendles and Sidebottom a fair bit the last month. They still are sublimely skilled with ball in hand, but their workrate is starting to slow and tire. Mihocek also is winding down.

They should’ve ditched Cox and kept Grundy.

Enjoy the toothless going we now have found a full forward (Howe)… good ploy to use for a quarter and surprise the opposition but if it becomes mainstay Moore will have to spend more time with his opponent and teams will not have the ability to start planning for it.

Here’s to hoping Collingwood carries Pendles for another 3 years in pursuit of the games record.

I’ve dunna ladder predictor and have us playing a home final against the Swans 🙊

Ive got a home final against the bombers and the tigers finishing 9th. lol

Might be time to resurrect a podcast for the run home

Had to go to bed before the game cos of work commitments. Watching the replay as I speak. 14 mins in, can’t believe how smug these Twats were. Will let everyone know the score when it’s over.
Thanks mate keep us informed how it's going.

Just watching the replay for about the 3rd time.

Jack Martin has to be our best set shot inside 50m. The ball splits the middle of the goal posts and his technique is flawless.

No coincidence that we have started winning since he returned. Love him!!!

Saints
Dees
Suns
Giants

all in finals contention. I wouldnt say anything is guaranteed in such a tight race yet
If we keep playing the way we are there's four wins there, a big if though.

If he stays fit i really can't see us losing another game.

Well done bluebaggers, you wanted it more and it certainly showed on the night.
Top eight is yours for the taking and how good would a final series be with both Collingwood and Carlton back in there.

Good luck with the rest of the season, as you are playing inspiring football.

Well played!
Did we want it more, or did you think it would be a lot easier...
Hard to tell I guess.
Until we meet again.
Ta though.:blueheart:

If we get sent to Western Sydney for the first final that's going to absolutely suck.

St Kilda are going to play a 16 man defence and put four extra around the ball next week I hope we are ready.

He's very good but I think that Cuners is even better. Rarely misses.
