Are you trading "Piggy" Oliver this week

Exact same issue regardless of the player you trade in? That is, even if the player plays on Clarry's bye week. Point being, the player's bye will likely carry across one of Oliver's injury weeks giving no advantage on those who have held him - virtually cancelling out one of the injury weeks.

The net point gain is there for those weeks Clarry misses, but if it's a 1-2 week injury, the fact you're going to have to burn another trade to bring him back in could offset those points gained. The question is - how much is a single trade worth in terms of points gained by trading Clarry?
There is no way of knowing this now, and it is very team dependent.

Using my team I would trade in Merrett, or if I hold Oliver cover him with one of Wilmot/Simpson/Johnson depending who is selected and if I can loop.

If Oliver misses 3 weeks it's 3 x Merrett (110?) vs 3 x rookie score (anything from 20-80, let's say 60) so that's an extra 150 points. Is that worth a trade? There will be teams that have better rookies for cover, or no rookies. Only time will tell.

If I had the trades I would trade Oliver to Butters then sideways him (or another R15 premo) back to Oliver in R15.

Definitely holding Clarry. The timing of the byes makes it an even easier decision! I am happy if he misses a month given the best 18 for the byes and the fact that i want him from week 1 post injury. Even if that is at the end of the byes, that is fine.

Assuming worst case scenario he comes back in round 15 means he'll only really be missed this weekend. I'm loaded with premos through rounds 12 and 13 and Dees off R14. Easy hold.

I feel like I barely have enough players for the byes with how bad my bench is, can’t imagine holding oliver in my current position. I’m more annoyed I’m forced to hold Noah Anderson as well

As a one off trade (not getting Clarry back) you could justify it as per your example above, given you've gained 150 points. But the moment you then use a second trade to trade Oliver back in that's where you're in deficit IMO as those two trades would be worth 75 points each. Wouldn't be worth it then, as it's akin to peeps who traded in a NPP in order to loop Sheezel's 114 off the bench early days (difference of 54-64 points on rookie who scored 50-60).

Looking at it from another perspective; 150 points gained spread out for the remaining 9 rounds of the season (post-byes when Oliver returns at latest) that's 16.6 points a round you need to make up to bridge the gap if you've instead held Oliver.

With trades so low if I trade out Oliver it would be with the expectation that I won't get him back. Unless sideways trading an injured premo I guess.

TBH I'm tempted to hold him as I'm so low on trades. I would probably trade him to Merrett, not sure it's worth it for $80k odd and maybe 150 points. He may be back quicker then its a big loss.

The other factor is what that saved trade gets me. If don't trade him and use that last trade in Round 22 to save a donut for the last 3 weeks it's definitely worth it.

I’ve traded Clarry currently as it stands, with minimal cash in the bank and hopper was still on the pine
I’ve gone Clarry to Stewart, helps my byes a lot as Geelong have the best (2 team) bye while pocketing 80k with the 60 I already had, upgraded hopper to Jack Macrae who can be swing forward when he (hopefully) gets his DPP, teams feel a lot improved. And yes I’ve comceded to probably not having Clarry back.

Clarry hasn't had his yearly 200 game yet. Hopefully he only misses one game and comes back with a 200 to punish those trading him

Most of us will trade heavily over the byes to finish our sides. That means cutting our maxed out rookies. With most of our chunky cows gone, how do you get Oliver back in if you trade him? Wardlaw to Oliver will cost you at least $250k, likely more. Unless you cop a LTI where you can swap to Oliver (it'll still cost you a fair bit of cash), most who trade Oliver won't get him back...

I'll trade him back out for whichever other one of my premo's go down,

so whilst not a certainty, call it a high likelihood.

Beat me to it. This is exacy what is saving me from trading him to Laird. Oliver will make up any scores he misses out with huge constant numbers.

The cost of no trades / donuts down the track deters me. Also there is every chance the premo you trade in will get injured.

Oliver is a tough piggy and I can't see him sitting out more than 1 week without getting ants in his pants.

Piggy will play King's Birthday vs the Pies. Crucial 8-point game for two teams with top 4 (even top 2) aspirations.
Will miss 2 max IMO.

1 trade for me so far

Doesn't matter too much, my teams only worth 12.7M yet I'm ranked 57,821.

In all seriousness, it’s not that clear a correlation sometimes.
Depends on split bench /field, all sorts of stuff, but across the comp, but you’d assume generally they go together OK.

Can straight swap SP Ryan to:

1. Steele
2. Zerrett
3. Swallow my pride and roughie laird back in
After some thinking time, I reckon there's fa between them and the answer depends on the rest of your team setup for byes and the remainder of the season. Good luck
