Really hoping my strategy of ensuring I have lots of bench players playing through the byes comes home strong.

Only had Cincotta and Madden not play last weekend. I’ve used some trades on getting rid of dead wood (constable, Cowan, young, Roberts and Sturt) to keep cash gen flowing.

Still 6 rookies on field (wilmot, smitch, Ashcroft, Humphrey, Simpson and sheezel)

18 trades , 0 boosts left. 20k

Most likely hold fire on trades this weekend, hope cash gen keeps going so I can continue to trade in top players across the lines to bring it home strong over teams going the value picks.
I’m surprised you have 18 trades having traded out those rookies for little cash. 6 rookies onfield isn’t great.

Quiet around here these days, lots of kents lost interest I guess. Or posting other places.
Yeah, definitely not like in the halcyon days.
Don't most of the different content creators have discords and whatever the other one is called (starts with S)?
Gotta be honest, apart from the SC forum, I barely venture out into other areas of BF anymore.
Bay 13 is OK sometimes if you know what you're looking for, still some quality there, and the rumours forum is always worth a look to see which footballer has gotten himself in gambling debt trouble with a gang of dwarf-burning bikies, but that's about the extent of it.

Wondering whether the relentless injuries and fallen rookies are taking their toll on people?

Yes FTTV have a discord, and DRSC have their "Slack" forum. No doubt plenty have migrated to those places, along with just not posting on social media for various reasons. These places ebb and flow.

it always gets quiet on this board as kents run out of trades, which is happening earlier this year. There is just not much to talk about if you aren't trading.

And some of the more prolific posters have been banned in the last year or so - AB, imissfrosty, dazjack and that prick kananooks :moustache:

Leaves Scoops to do a lot of the heavy lifting :thumbsu:

The bold bit reminds me of living in our last place. Was in a cul-de-sac and the long time residents ran a bbq for the residents of the street (about 30 houses) each summer. We were there about 6 years and all they seemed to do every year was sit around and talk about how good the bbq's of the past were. I'm sure it's a bit the same here, we all remember the good times, forgetting it was probably dead towards the end of every season.

Clearly I'm in a pensive mood this fine morning. So back to the SC, what the hell to do with Oliver?

Fairly certain I will just hold Clarry and hope that he is back after his bye, snout in the air, sniffing out those delicious little truffles in the form of bulk SC points…

Unless…

I actually forgot about Davey as well. I haven’t had too many injuries or had to sideways to many premiums. Only premos I started that have been traded were Ridley, Cumming and Hopper.

I realise I’m an extra 1 or 2 rookie on field than most teams but a lot of those teams have little bench cover and limited trades now. See how it fares for me during byes.

Had Bailey Dale not been a 💩 truck for a month my ranking would be a lot better.

Playing the longer game with cash leagues in mind as well.

Yeah, what happened to these guys anyway?

SC seems to ebb and flow like an ammos footy team:
  • everyone is keen as mustard in March
  • injuries, sh!te weather and trips to Europe (read: injuries, ded rooks and confusing byes) shatter morale and participation numbers in the dark winter months
  • people come good around finals time, desperate for September glory, and engagement increases. Hopefully those who saw out the dark months are rewarded with said glory!

For me, a new job and some family stuff has taken up my time of late, but rest assured that I am always lurking……

Re trades, I think I am holding this week because:
A - I’m not impressed with any bubble boys. Will wait for I Fought the Wardlaw as a sole downgrade next week
B - I don’t have any rooks who must go this week
C - I am preparing to go bananas the bye rounds - have 17 trades left + $350k in the bank.
D - I don’t have Clarry (has killed me to date!), so hopefully I can hold/make ground against the mob without trading.

HOWEVER, I am tempted by Dale with JJ done. $447k, BE of 28 and took a season high 7 kick outs last week………

PS, I had a premonition that Rowston got back in this week…

Re: Dale, he only played on from 4 of those 7.
And he's had at least 4 play-on kick-ins in 5 of the first 9 rounds.
It wasn't a factor.

This trade/hold Oliver decision is killing me. I've written down some plan trades for both holding and trading, and they're quite similar, because Oliver down to Sicily gives you $100k. That's the same as a shit downgrade I'd have to make later in the byes (eg. in round 14/15, once all the good cows are gone, trading somebody like Johnson down to a rookie might only net you $100k).

Trading Oliver is more aggresive, I would finish my side quicker because of the extra cash, but there's no chance I'm getting him back in.

The fact that this season is 1 week longer, Oliver is a competitive beast, one of the most durable players in the comp, and I'm sure he wants to win a Brownlow, even if he's out until round 15, there's another 10 rounds to go. I'm going to need that trade, and I'm going to want him back in.

But the flipside is points on the board, and getting up into the top 2000, and eventually 1000, and continuing to climb the ranks.

Team selections will ultimately be the decider. Let's see how my many green dots I have on my bench.

Tend to agree here Steve.

Thinking hold is the boring, but smart play. It's the price we pay for trading so aggressively early.

Every SC content creator i ve watched this week suggest dont trade Clarry unless you are top 1000. All week ive neen planning on keeping him, but im actually top 1000, so i dont know WTF to do.

I'm torn on Oliver also.

Had my eye on him last week and finally bit the bullet last week (involved sacrificing Ashcroft, so a high price).

But I'm top 300 and focused solely on climbing ranks for overall rank. If I crash and burn and lose leagues, I am not too fussed.

So that lends itself to a trade but I would want to be damn sure that I put that cash to work as it will be impossible to bring him back unless the Bont goes down.

Steele, Neale? (with money to upgrade Ryan) There are question marks over all other mids. Plus the prospect that he does the miraculous recovery and is back in a week or two (Stewart, Docherty, Zorko style).

Bloody tough one.

I hear you.

I've been toying with Oliver to Libba, which gives me the funds I need to also do Simpson to Sinclair this round. Libba's form over the past couple months speaks for itself. And with his ownership at less than 6%, a tenth of Oliver's, if he keeps up his form, it could be a season-changing move.

I had been planning to have 6 spare trades once my team is completed to account for injuries etc. If I trade Oliver, it'll be 5. That in itself isn't the biggest issue. If Libba covers 3 weeks where I otherwise wouldn't have a premo, I think its worthwhile. If.

Not sure which rookies you have left stevebbb but Humphrey and Wilmot are on track for covering the cost of getting Clarry back into my side. If they keep up their current scoring, I could aim to complete my team by trading them out right after the byes to bring Oliver in. (I could trade them out earlier, but they cover the bad byes very well)

The main issue for me with bringing in Libba is that it exacerbates my R15 issue. I'd need to find a way to bring in 2 premos to get through that bye unscathed. Not insurmountable though.

I'm still thinking that they have made the game too hard for casual players to play
It's hard to get new players and the number of existing players are going down year by year - people are giving up on the game!
i.e. unless players are committed, they are disadvantaged

Actually enjoying the simplicity of fantasy this year tbh. Just do your 2 trades a week and not think about it to much. Less issues with dead rookies and the byes aswell because you have the trades to sideways premiums.
