Not sure about the ball flight thing BB. I’ve seen him take a few hangers which I’d presume would require a fair amount ball flight awareness.

Yes but for every hanger he has taken he has misjudged 7-8 not to mention how many times he gets caught in no man’s land.

Not hanging him on one game but he was atrocious in the 2s last week constantly caught under the ball or too far away to impact the contest.

Floaty interceptors are a dime a dozen. Gun full backs who can do both and stop the bigs and gun forwards are worth way more. Look at the damage teams with two keys do these days. Nobody has enough good defenders to stop Harry + Charlie, Lynch + Riewoldt (before Riewoldt required a walking frame), Kennedy + Darling, Hawkins + Cameron.... These teams are all the successful ones too. It really is awesome that we have one of the few defenders that can nullify one of the two guns in these setups so we can gameplan the other one.
If he was doing both all good.

But he’s not at the moment.

Last week against Darling on one leg he only intercepted once. Too often he holds and kicks off to a 20m option.

He’s such a beautiful reader of the ball - just not using it.

We will be that much better when he takes on the first kick from the mark.

Yeah. I think that'll come. There's been a bit of a confidence dip in the team and I'm sure that layer will come back when his target down the line or into the middle aren't the fishers/ honeys of the team.

Why do we need weiters to intercept when we have kemp and gov to
Do that role … I would prefer Daniher kick none tonight then weiters take more intercept marks
Daniher is the kind of forward that gives Weiters trouble, i.e. tall, long and athletic. His best option may be to try and intercept as opposed to shut down as keeping him goalless playing a shut down may not be likely in this matchup.

I'm confident we'll win tonight by 23 points - Let's go!!!

We haven't fielded a team this strong for a while, it has to be close to our best 22.

If everyone is available, we are only missing Williams and Boyd.

Look at danihers record vs weits. He really isn't the kind that's troubled weiters, even with Brisbane consistently beating us.

You could see Fisher’s confidence just getting lower and lower with those points he was kicking last week.

Yeah if he kicked straight it’s a 3 goal, 21 possession game but what really happened was he got some easy stats against a very weak team, got pushed off the ball very easily in the last quarter and missed three gettable shots at goal that in other weeks could be the difference between winning or losing. Our coach, for better or worse is less about system and more about players making the most of opportunities so things like the missed goal and the centre clearance Fisher was bodied out of will leave an impression on him.

Hope he can find some form, competition for spots is a great problem to have though.

I want the best of both worlds. The best key defenders in the comp both lockdown on key forwards and intercept. Look at Taylor, Andrews, May, Moore. Weitering should be able to do that as well. He just needs to play more aggressively.
Weiters when he’s up and about wins the one on one by marking it & hurts by finding a good outlet.
There was a period where he just didn’t lose a contest & marked anything near him, he’ll get back to that form.
As the confidence grows he will also start kicking it hard, he’s a beautiful kick when aggressive, kicks 50 in a heart beat & it flys low & fast.

More likely acres, hollands, Walsh.

Honey is strong over the ball unlike Fish at the moment.

We need to intercept and out play Daniher one one one, but don't needle him, just saying ;)

Not the easiest team to intercept against though, they like to have numbers right up the ground and kick into an open forward line so guys like Cameron and Bailey run onto the ball. You’ve really gotta control the ball and not let it out easily against these guys or they’ll run all over you.

All I can say thank goodness David King isn’t our coach. The bloke is a click bait specialist.

Weitering is one of the best one-on-one defenders in the league but let’s play him as an interceptor.

I’m not sure why anyone thinks TDK is a defender. He can’t judge the ball in flight and has poor positional awareness.
Can't agree re Weiters...and I honestly have no clue re TDK.

We match up really well over the ground, the danger man will be Charlie Cameron. However, our back six has held up extremely well this year.

Ultimately, it'll be won at the coalface. If we can match them on clearance and contested footy we beat them. Neale could be held by Curnow if needed and Dunkley can be found out against big midfields. Not that Dunkley is poor against big mids, he just isn't as good as he is against smaller midfielders.

H to get off the leash and snaffle a few tonight. I could see him finishing with 4 or 5.

I'm seeing Hollands as Kade Simpson

General consensus of people here, and of stats in only the last 7 games ?

7 games is a fair sample size.

For context I have been an advocate of Fisher since he was drafted. It’s only this year I’ve seen him as a liability. His decision making and efficiency has dropped off. If you are lacking in your defensive game as a small forward or midfielder you need to seriously hurt the opposition offensively.

1. Weitering has the scope to play as an interceptor, he is better than just a lockdown defender. Sam Durdin could come in and lock down, Weitering has far more strings to his bow and should be better utilised imo. Think it can be a gradual transition though, just certain periods of games where he swaps opponents and focuses more on marking and distribution.
2. "Can't judge the ball in flight and has poor positional awareness" is actually describing why TDK is not a good forward. Defenders get led to the ball and it's far easier for them to impact, how many times have we seen the 'failed forward becomes solid KPD' scenario? Simply, it's a hell of a lot easier to play KPD than KPF. Reckon TDK will make a good defender one day but I can't see it being at Carlton.

Sorry I should have qualified my comments on Weiters. He is capable intercepting and being a lock down. I’m not sure why he should be limited to one or the other. Also Young is average one on one. IMO JW is one of the top 4 key defenders in the league along with May, Andrews and Taylor. On field body language can be a bit off at times but I reckon he’s a stud.

Tdk on the other hand has really poor judgment of the ball in flight even when he plays ruck so I’m not sure how sending him back helps. Also surely he is too slow and too poor a kick to play key defender. The reserves game against the Dogs can’t be unseen. I was expecting him to dominate - like OBrien from the Crows did when he was dropped last year - instead young Darcy looked much better than our Tom.
