Wouldn't consider him off of that, maybe in a year or two.

How was Tomoya Owens's game?
In the under 18s.Thought hotton was okay. It would’ve been about 9 months since his last game.
Competes pretty well. Dropped a few marks early and skills were sloppy. No tackles though which is usually one of his strengthsHow was Tomoya Owens's game?

Need to get on a recruiting drive. Their non listed players really are not up to scratch compared to other teams. Been getting worse by the season. Not since Paul Hudson.Sandy don't play with much system- just seems to be bang the ball on the boot and hope for the best.
Problem is why would you want to play VFL. You can play in the country league and make serious coin. Hard to attract good playersNeed to get on a recruiting drive. Their non listed players really are not up to scratch compared to other teams. Been getting worse by the season. Not since Paul Hudson.

Salary cap for vfl listed players is 100kWhat sort of differences are there in payment?
Can be harder to get a daytime job in some of those places.
Or you can commute....ewww.

Fair enough, however that issue should apply across the whole VFL competition.Problem is why would you want to play VFL. You can play in the country league and make serious coin. Hard to attract good players
Sometimes a country club would hook you up a job locally as well. Of course you'd have to be willing to live up there, but if you're in you early 20's it can be pretty sweet - get a job + over $1000 match paymentWhat sort of differences are there in payment?

Hundred per cent losing guys like Answerth, Seccul , etc really cooked the club. The coaching merry go round has not helped either. I know of multiple Sandy listed players previously listed who were not happy. I think ultimately we need to make it like A Footscray or Geelong VFL side where guys are attracted to play because they may get picked up at the next level. We pick up real no names and we look more exposed this year because less players are available due to injury. Other sides have a lot more quality VFL level talent supporting they kids and helping train the next tier.
We don't need a stand alone Saints VFL side but we do need to invest in the side we do have. Teaching young players how to get smashed in the VFL isn't a good development model.
The vfl is a crap comp played at crap grounds. Too many byes. Too disconnected from the senior comp.
Needs a total revamp.
I was surprised to see he had 14 touches, I must have had him mixed up with other players. The thing I did notice was how quick and agile his movements were in tight spaces.
Hopefully he becomes a very good player, something like Butters would be nice.
Owens looks like he’ll have that impact that butters has. That kid has no regard for his personal safety. Actually looking at how Butters has single handedly dragged port into wins some games is a great way to project Owens next year with yet another pre season into him.Would be great, but i'm not sure we should expect a contested beast like Butters.

Let's hope Batch's Leo experiment unearths another on-baller.I'm kind of hanging my hat on Owens and Windhager as far as winning contested footy in future.
Right now we have Steele : ageing and out of form.
Crouch : Excellent but ageing.
Ross : Can play a decent inside game on occasion but not week in , week out, and ageing.
Jones : Erratic and can't stay on the park.
Gresham lays a pretty good inside game, may leave as free agent.
Clark : Doesn't seem to be a real contested beast, and keeps getting injured , albeit not due to any chronic condition he has.
Bytel may not be good enough, but has played only 9 full games.
Byrnes and Hotton probably more outside mids.
Didn’t look like he would be on the list 6 weeks ago, but is doing enough to earn a contract.Batch’s review dropped.

Interesting ones:
Cooper Sharman
21 disposals, 10 marks, four inside-50s, three rebound-50s
Cooper did a tremendous job to get back and play with not much prep after being the sub for the Saints-Swans game. He chose to play the night before the game and rocked up, and his buy-in was great. He performed really well on the wing, ran really hard and gave us some good looks both ways
Going straight from forward in the afl to the mason wood wing role in the vfl. Lyon would love that. 10 marks pretty good work rate too
He just looked out of favour early with him not being able to get a game with both Membrey and asking out and took a while to find some form in the VFLI thought he had been decent enough since he got here, obviously needed to work on some stuff, as does eveyone but certainly had talent
