I suspect Acres is going to be extremely underrated by Carlton supporters.

The guy is an absolute monster, his running ability is psychotic. There were a few plays today where he just kept going at the same speed when other guys would be completely gassed. Throw in how big he is and I think he's going to be a very valuable addition to our side.

couldn't agree more - the dees board has some creative commentary on the same subject..........
What… they’re still finding time to post on here, surely they’d be too busy packing to try and get to the snowfields for some late season skiing?

Just watched the replay of the winning goal.

I dunno if I’ve heard a roar as loud as Docherty getting the ball let alone the mark and goal from Acres
Newman's late mark last week set a roar meter record that lasted all of 7 days......

I’d like to revisit our game against the filth last season in Round 11. Sitting 8-2. We were losing but we fought our way back to within a kick and I remember thinking I’m super proud that they put that sort of effort to will themselves back into the game and that even if they lost I’d be super proud of their efforts. Fast forward to our game today and that same thought was spoken out by my father when we were within a kick tonight. I responded coldly.. “Not a chance, they NEED to find a way!”. At the very next moment I finally witnessed the ticker we’ve all been craving for. The itch to take the opportunity presented. They let us back in.. AND WE TOOK IT!!!

I sat next to 2 women in their 50s. We spoke a tiny bit during the game. Were cheering Carlton.
After I hugged them both.
They said we're so happy for you.
We don't barrack for Carlton.
We barrack for Richmond.
We just hate Melbourne.
I was arguing with a cooker on Twitter, ended up just petering out, said I was off to get a coffee, and continue play testing a game. He wished me a good weekend, I said it’d be a good weekend if Carlton gets up. He wished us all the best and told me he was a Collingwood supporter who hates Melbourne.

What wise ladies they are.

In the MCC, Pompous Melbourne fans in suits who were mocking Saad all game ended up in a river of salty tears. Nothing more heart warming.
There was. 1999 Prelim… * fans leaving the ground in the last to line up for grand final tickets thinking they’d made it… that was heart warming.

Christ on a bike.

I had my kids at my place tonight. Doesn't happen all that often these days. I knew it needed to be movie night... 7.30 the phone went into flight mode, and we sat down to watch Spider-Man. And when Tobey Maguire said to Doc Ock, sometimes we gotta be steady and give up our dreams, I felt like saying amen, brother.

9.45, shoo the kids off to bed, get the first half rolling on Kayo. 21-2, WTF. 22-32, go you good Blue things. 11pm, 31-33 at the half, and jangling nerves. Now for the hard part. Switch off the stream, to save it reverting to full-time when the live broadcast finishes. Hang out the laundry (it's definitely still winter in Canberra). Then a mountain of washing-up. 12.30am, surely the stream is safe now. Kayo back on.

That third quarter, and watching them grind us down, after a nice early goal by Kennedy. Three-quarter time, and we're lucky to be within 6. And then the last, centre-bounces are a godsend for us, Walsh best on ground two weeks in a row, and we steal a tiny break. But then we start kicking it to May... and again... and again. The Dees are going forward with purpose now, Richo says it's over if they kick this one... or that one... or that one. I'm 50 years of age... and hiding behind the couch, at 1.30am. Stupid game. Three bullets dodged, down by 9.

And then something from nothing. The only bloke that can stop May marking it, turns out to be Lever. What about Docherty, dislocated shoulder, but absolutely clutch in Q4. Clean hands to Motlop, and we're back in it. On my knees in front of the telly.

Still Melbourne are driving forward, and our forays are weakening. Lever intercepts with 90 seconds left, and surely they run it down from here. Out to the wing, good conservative football... but still we're chasing and tackling. Finally, a glimmer as Viney is forced onto his right, and it lands on Weitering's chest.

Into the corridor, because he has to. No-one's there. Wait, Hollands is there, will it get to him? Not a contested mark yet. Great heart, great run, he does mark it, and he goes. There's only one good choice, he takes it, and he kicks with penetration. (The value of fresh legs. I decided last week I hated teenage subs; I'm in the process of revising that opinion.) That man Docherty again, can he get outside Langdon? He... CAN!! Langdon overcommits, GO FOR HOME, WHO'S IN THE SQUARE? ACRES, GO BACK... WHAT ARE YOU DOING??? IT'S HIT THE POST, WE'RE OUT OF THE FINALS... IT'S IN!!! IT'S IN! WE'RE IN!

Oh, I'm sorry, darling. Everything's fine. Let's put you back to bed.

(I hope it was a wonderful experience for you people lucky enough to be there. The roar for each of Walsh's goals was like nothing I have heard.)

Off the salty Freo finals thread, mid-game:

"Which Carlton player is going to kick the winner? Bonus points if after the siren".

That's priceless, actually.
