At this point in starting to think Jack Hayes was a fever dream

I think we may have a vague idea why Walsh left
Members hopefully back round 1 he was back round 5
King originally back in round 4/6 who knows ?
Coff back from an ACL does his hamstring then does his calf while getting over his string
Hayes does a bad Hammy when getting over a foot injury -major hammies happen under maxium stress and he was in rehab
Jones as well with a soft tissue set back
who knows with the other indefinates
I reckon Ross said enough

I thought Lyon was just doing his usual press conference schtick when asked about what happens when players return and he basically said they don't exist to him until they are declared 100% ready - all i could think was that's bs, he knows what he has to come back. Instead, could he of just been playing coy regarding the reliability of returns.

Dont forget king does a hammy in rehab as well.

It’s beyond incompetent
I love that Walsh was let go now instead of wait the year out
Tough going when head of footy is also a fitness guru
Ruthless cull continues and I love it

Well... s**t

Wonder if Walsh departure relevant with this?

Got to be the straw that broke the camels back.
I’d say it’s fairly obvious.
Recurring (different injuries) to King, Coff, Hayes and DMac and possibly others just not acceptable.

From my memory, It wasn't like that last year was it?

Will be an interesting question if there is room for all of Max, Hammer and Members, as well as Owens.

Assuming Butler and Higgins (with Gresh rotation) as your smalls, Members and Max as talls and Owens as the in-between (also doing the 15% ruck).

Probably leaves Hammer and Poo battling for one spot (if fit). Good problem to have
Gresh is getting pretty close to predominantly forward too. Down to 11% CBAs against Port on the weekend.

I would never have said this in previous years (I’ve advocated for Gresh being an almost full time forward) but we probably need to mix that mix up.

We’ve been absolutely pantsed out of the middle the last two weeks and granted Carlton and Port have good midfields it’s not sustainable to get smashed out of the middle the way we have.

Roll Windy, Gresh, Byrnes, Clark, Sincs through there along with the Steele/Crouch rest periods.

We gotta do something different imo.

Were we really pantsed last week though?

We won the center clearances 14 to 11 and the stoppage clearances 23 to 21 and we won the contested ball as well.

JHF had a handful of very clean clearances which probably made it feel worse than it was.

Where we really fell down was our inside 50 efficiency and conceding 4 goals from defensive half turnovers/frees. Exactly what Ross said in his post-match press conference.

Imo we were.

We won the hit outs pretty comfortably but only won the clearances by a handful but the quality of their clearances was the issue. They had a stack that were clean out the front of the stoppage unimpeded.
These weren’t scratchy hacks forward they were streaming into open air, it was only shoddy disposal from JHF and our defence being really good that stopped 4/5 goals.

I think JHF was the only one getting those clean clearances though. The problem was he had 11 including 5 out of the centre bounce.

Nullify his influence and we comfortably won in that area. The next best Port midfielder clearance-wise was Wines with 2.

Rozee, Boak, Butters, and Wines only had 7 clearances between them. Crouch for us had 8, Steele, Ross 5 each and Clark 4.

I think we got pantsed by JHF but the other fellas we beat pretty comfortably in there.

Can't let him have a free run at it again next time

Think that’s a real simplistic view of the set up. If JHF isn’t getting it they’ll put Rozee or Butters or SPP into the receiver spot. They worked hard to create space and they used it.

You can’t allow teams to get clean ball from centre clearances like that. If it’s second/third/fourth phase that’s another thing, that’s hard to defend but tap, shark, space. Totally unacceptable, and it happened last week and v Carlton.

Totally agree with the difference in clearance quality.

Their typical clearance: JHF streaming forward and kicking to a leading forward (lucky he can't kick)

Our typical clearance: Over posses with handballs and a dump kick forward
