Tony74's on SS response to some banter re Walsh leaving.

If you had been to any pre season sessions you could see how brutal they were. To get to the top you have to go to the extreme levels. The players all bought in. I mean if you had gone to Moorabbin on Boxing Day you would have seen senior players doing continuous 400m sprints- on their own fruition.
After Max hurt his shoulder his running sessions were unbelievably hard- to the point of exhaustion. Coff, Dmac, the amount of laps that did in the pool.
Is it too much. For some obviously, for others it’s made them into incredible resilient players. Everything is easier after the event. You can have every high performance stat possible, but the muscle is still a rubber band. We’re just trying to get it to its peak as that’s what’s needed to win a flag. Two steps forward, one step back.
But as I stated before not one person is to blame. No one in this business is a mug."

Im sure its not the way it was done in practise but this sounds real 80's training sort of shit "bend em til they break".

Now in isolation its not a concern but in the context of the injury list (especially soft tissues on dudes in rehab groups) it reads poorly.

Not every player should be doing the same volume and load especially guys rehabbing leg injuries.

Im not a sport scientist, physio etc. but id certainly hope the pros the club has employed a bit more thought and discretion than that implies.

I mean this as no slight at Zak Jones, but would just like to get a gauge of how people view him, and his position on our list.
Who would be upset if he wasn't on our list - given an equitable return on trade (whatever that may be).

For mine, his best is exciting. Bursting pace from a stoppage. Always comes with a bit of a questionable shank by foot, but the burst is special. Something that not many have, and very valuable to any list. Especially one with a bit of a meat and two veg midfield in regards to pace.
His worst is uncompetitive, clanger-central. Not to mention, unfortunately and no fault of his own, very injury prone.

What do people think?
If I'm honest I genuinely forgot he was on our list.

You pretty much summed him up. His best is what we lack - someone with explosive pace out of the centre. He compliments Steele, Crouch, Ross and Clark well.
Given his injury history I doubt he’s got much trade value at all. Best we can hope is that he gets through the year unscathed and warrants another year.

At that point, the point of "get through the year and warrants another", is that... viable? worthy?
Or is it list/salary cap clogging?

Hope he gets back to his best.

That probably depends on how many spaces we have on our list. I’d be leaving contract talks pretty late and see where we stand after the trade and draft periods.

He's definitely not going to get us anything back in a trade. We'd just have to hope that he can get back and make it difficult to delist him.

Respectfully- a poor man's Jack Steven with no goal sense.

When in form, we absolutely need what he brings to our one-paced midfield! He is a wildcard for this team and hopefully firing come finals time

Zak Jones's best is elite but will we ever see it again? We never saw it that much in the first place.

His career is up in the air at the moment. Unless he really hits his straps fast I think I would rather persist with playing Bytel and Windhager and move on from him.

Zak has a significant point of difference to others in our midfield.

I for one hope that he can can get back to full fitness & have a decent run injury free.

Reckon he’ll surprise a few who have written him off.

I wrote off Ross and landed up with egg on my face.
So I agree.

I hope you are right! We deserve some luck with injuries we haven't been able to get a run of having our best team available for sometime.

We haven’t seen him under Ross’ coaching. I’m hopeful he comes back and is able to find his best, which is what we’re seeing under the current coaching regime.

Looks like McKenzie trained today, judging from the clubs training pics :) Picture 3/29

Yeah I just read on SS that both McKenzie & Olli Hotton joined the main training session today - so thats positive.

We wouldn’t get anything in a trade
