Seriously if anyone at the club thought at the start of the season that our list was even remotely close to being good enough to do any damage they should just walk away now as they have NFI
At very best we scrape into 8th but we would just get smashed first week , there are a lot of players on our list that if they were on another teams list you would never mention them let alone rate them

Well the club claimed that they hoped Lyon would help find out if the list was better than its output and that coaching was holding them back.

Steele just comes across as someone who wants to be liked by everyone, not necessarily respected by everyone. Feel like he tries to be the nice guy and everyone's best friend.
Probably a bloody great bloke but when it comes to uncompromising standards and getting everyone on the same page I don't think he's good enough as an AFL captain.
For me Owen's looks like the one who will grow into that role. Just has that "if no one else will do it then I will" attitude" reckon he'll be the spiritual leader in a year or 2 at the very least.
I understand how ridiculous this sounds, but I get Wayne Carey (on field of course) type vibes from Mitchito. I looked up their heights and there’s about a 1cm difference but for some reason Mitchito carries himself in a similar way. I’ve had this feeling all year

Did anyone just see the old duck on abc news got to go to Moorabbin for her 100th birthday and on arrival told Steele she was disappointed in their effort last weekend
Was on ch 9 last night
Was very funny

Owens might grow into that but he's a shy quiet kid at the moment. I think Wilkie is the only obvious one we have. Wood probably has some elements but again is a quiet character. Howard is more verbal and instructive but fluctuates with form and lacks some composure.

Phillipou has the very engaged manner and loves media and attention. I think he's got the personality to thrive as a leader but probably a few years off having the performance levels required at this stage. Hayes has the history of leadership but a fringe player.

Kind of agree, especially about just doing something! However, I don't think yelling is ever really the answer. A s**t load of people especially these days don't respond well to it.

I know if my boss yelled at me I would probably look for a new job.
Yeah I’m not a fan of yelling either but I just meant that a good leader would find a way to be received well whatever is needed to convey to that specific player or group

Despite loving the outcome, I’m not a fan of Riewoldt sniping from the sidelines. If he wants the club to improve, he should put himself out there to work with the forwards. It’s all well and good to criticize others, but when you’re doing bugger all, except white anting, it’s not a good look for Nick.

Riewoldt v Ratts is hilarious.

If Riewoldt got the info from Ross (even though anyone could see it with their own eyes) it's even funnier that Ratts is fired back.

a 2x failed coach getting upset that a coach renowned for driving hard standards and has a 100% strike rate at taking clubs to a GF is questioning the standards he left behind.

Also, how funny is the media defending Ratts, start of the year they were reporting that our list had a drinking problem.

everyone loves ratts the same way the saints or GC are everyone's second team, cos we suck and are of no consequence. When ratts got the sack everyone jumped in to bat for him like he was a paraplegic and the school bully big andy bassat had pushed over his wheelchair. The reality is Nick's right, ratts feelings are hurt, so what. If he didn't want to be called out for running a half assed operation he should have done a better job when he was coach. Tired of having push over characters leading this club, ratts, certain players. I miss the bubble. For more than a decade we've been completely irrelevant. Lucky im an old bastard and got to see the naughties

Long term no doubt it was the right decision to bring in Lyon but when you sack Ratten and then the next year the record and profile are identical you have to come up with something to justify the decision and I think that’s what Nick was trying to do.

Not sure I’ve ever heard one of our coaches ever take responsibility for a loss or the way we played the way Ross did. Nor talk about how he has to improve.

RTB has always protected his players from the media
Unlike the way Richo threw Carlisle under the bus after the Murphy episode.
The players seemed pretty peeved about that.

Thats probably why most of his ex-players love Ross - he’s loyal on the outside and gets his point across in no uncertain terms I’d imagine outside the public domain.

I think it's like how kids feel safe with clear boundaries and direct communication. He says what he means and has very clear boundaries. He helps them get the absolute best out of themselves if they are willing to work.

Are you a good umpire though?
