For those who want us to take McKercher or Sanders with our top picks, please help me understand.

Which of our current midfielders do you want McKercher/Sanders to replace? And why?

Genuine question.
I’m all in for Curtin.
But I think if McKercher can go wing/hbf as well. So perhaps, Curtis Taylor and Jy are mine. I see his speed and acceleration more useful in those spaces on the ground than those two. Also his ability to get the ball would helps him out there too.

TT could request trade next year.
Powell is average.
Wardlaw as good as he can be is yet to proove he will overcome his hammies.
Wilphil has shown signs but is still an average midfielder.

David King when asked about North and pick 1:

They gave those priority picks for a reason, get creative, bring in someone who’s going to get viewers on a Saturday night.
Pick Reid and Wiz and between these two and the Sheez...OMG what a highlights package!!

Reid takes the intercepting mark, fends off, steps around, handballs to a bursting Wardlaw, driving kick to Big Chom crashes the pack, ball spills out to Sheez snaps, drops short in the pocket, Souva tries the miracle shot across the goal face....the Wiz with the volley from the boundary ... GOOOAALLL

McKercher has leg speed and endurance. He can replace Greenwood, Shiels or Tucker.

I am not fussed who we take... but Phillips and Powell haven't established themselves in the midfield yet. Yes, they have both played good games and have often shown promising signs, but they are not there yet and there would be a level of unknown how high they will peak. None of our mids to date have hit the ground running like Sheezel did this year, I think Wardlaw would have if he didn't have injury interruptions, the games he played in were all very good.

We have to also assume that we will lose players. Will Powell get lured home? Will another mid ask to be traded? Fremantle's push up the ladder stalled because of constant midfield losses, they drafted mids to replace them but that is 2-3 years down the hole. GWS have been able to have a strong midfield despite the turnstile like loss of good quality mids because they keep recruiting and developing the mids before they lose too many of them.

If you recruit McKercher and Sanders and McKercher ends up a 90/100 player, Sanders a 85/100, LDU 95/100, Wardlaw 90/100, Powell 65/100 and Phillips 75/100 then you would eventually retain your best mids and trade out the ones lower on the totem pole whilst they have good trade value and you go again, take some good young mids and build them up ready to replace someone who leaves or push someone else out of the best side. That way you maintain a high standard.

Because it isn't just about Phillips, Powell and the second mid tier, we have players like Greenwood, Howe, Taylor, Turner, Tucker, Zurhaar, Mahony, Shiels, Lazzaro, Drury, etc running through the middle at different times this season. I don't think anyone in this group is in Clarkson's dreams of a premiership midfield. Some are gone, others are playing a transition role and we have some really good prospects but we don't want to go another 2 or 3 years then realise we don't have enough quality in the midfield. No disrespect to Tucker or Stephens but they are/were on our radar because our midfield sucks. It has the potential to get a lot better as some mature but it is not a foregone conclusion and we should never assume it will be, it is a results based industry.

Hearing the club is gradually becoming less sus, though still some work to be done

Please get pick 10 from GC using the future end of first round picks and just take it to the draft.

2,3,10,14 & 19 > 1,3 & 19.
If you don’t think 2 and 10 is enough, you don’t need to add 14. Use PPs or…

NM out: 2, 10 & LMac (incl. salary?)
NM in: 1

NM: 1, 3, 14, 19, 20 (PP)

NM get Harley Reid with onfield leadership upgrade and still have 5x first round picks, WC get 2x top ten picks and a player they’ve coveted for 10 years.

I spoke to TT myself at the B&F. Without me asking, he said don’t believe the crap in the media and his manager had told him he will have a new contract early next year. He said he was very happy.

I think Powell and Will Phill will both look different players next year, both have well above average ability and when fit and in a settled team, we will see their best footy.

Spot on Tas. Our midfield is no where near the finished product. I would be wrapped if we took one of mckercher or sanders alongside curtin.
