Was Jack Gunston for pick 24 and some steak knives with later pick swaps one of the best deals we have done?

Lake and 27 for 21 and 41

Mitchell for a pick in the teens.

Scrimshaw and a F4 for a F3.

You win some you lose some. An indigenous, homesick kid with baby twins is probably not the one to be 'making a stand' over. All this posturing is so short sighted.

I'm torn on this. We get bent over regularly. It would send a message.
We got bent over under Wright. And then it was mainly one trade to do with Brad Hill. Where are all the other trades that we got bent over?

Its the compromise around him being an NGA
Once he nominates they will select him with one of those early picks

Its due to the complaints from other clubs around diluting the top 6-7 players for more compo for North

AFL can do what they want
They made them trade concessions for players last season

But will he nominate? He is in the range to get drafted to a pretty good club. He might not want to go to North.

Pragmatism - it's underrated!
Hey don't get it twisted I'm still not happy with pick 38 but it would be better than a pick in the 50s. The other side of all of this is we (the HFC) took a risk in drafting an interstate indigenous kid would've known there was always a chance that this day would come so we can't be acting all surprised so I guess we just have to take our lumps on this one. The unfortunate loser in all of this is any future indigenous kids might not get a look in due to fear of this situation happening again which isn't fair but to a certain degree is becoming a reality.

God this is nonsense. Tyler is not playing anything apart from for the eagles next year. This is media beat up. Read the actual sentences. Prepared to go to the psd every player would be they don’t care how they get to their new home. Eagles reluctant to give more than a third round pick that could be 38. Which is what we want. Holy crap people this is the second time I have posted it. Ned Ryerson its sign time.
The article said "The Hawks are interested in cutting a deal with the Eagles but could not expect anything better than a third-round pick as West Coast could also pick up the Subiaco product with pick one in the pre-season draft"
Which is just stating that the Eagles have an advantage in negotiations. Then all of a sudden the media are making out Brockman is the one demanding it. Then everyone here starts losing their shit.......

Oh pragmatism is rarely about being happy. Content more than anything. Would I be happy if we got a second round pick for Brockman - absolutely! Do I think this will happen, no. Would I be miffed if we got a fourth round pick - absolutely. Do I think it will hopefully go for about pick 38 and we move on - most likely. No joy, no pain - just getting on with it.

A few points IMO:

- Weagles hold SOME leverage over Brocky. But surely the club understands a F4, even first pick in it, is largely useless for our hand these days. Even points. Should be pushing hard for PSD. That being said, expect the same lines to be trotted out by the club and fold on another trade that I’d wish we would be tougher on.

- With Norf expected to get pity picks galore in this draft, I never want to hear Clarko moan about compromised drafts again. They are being gifted a ridiculous handout this year that I’m surprised not more clubs are up in arms about. Lucky we’ve got a high pick, as anyone in finals will get shafted with this handout this year

So effectively will be a swap of McKay for Sanders.

Not a bad result for us if this happens as I dare say Sanders would be lowest on our list of priorities. I've not been enamoured by his draft attributes this year to be honest, seems like another slow inside mid with ordinary skills.

Sanders seems to have Jhye Clark vibes for sure

Andy Gowers said this morning if we were North we would be doing the exact same thing and lobbying the AFL for extra picks.

The request for support I think is fair.

It’s the entitled attitude and give us the world of some that don’t sit well with me.

I think a first round pick mid range and access to bid on Saunders is fair.

Some extra cap for development coach and a few extra rookie spots.

An no there shouldn’t be any first round pick compensation the following year.

My issue is they keep getting the bloody help. The Lions between 2010 and 2018 finished 13th, 15th, 13th, 12th, 15th, 17th, 17th, 18th and 15th. They repeatedly asked for help throughout the later stages of that run without success - while they did an initial crazy top-up in 2010 that netted them Fevola and not much else and backfired badly on them - they continued to hit the draft after that and got burned repeatedly by players not sticking around. So unlike Norf who keep making their own messes - the Lions kept getting stung while doing the right thing and trying to draft their way out of trouble and they got a solitary end of first round priority pick throughout that time while the Gold Coast got hand out after hand out after hand out. Now Norf are getting multiple years of assistance.

I really hope the Lions get the flag this year because they at least did it the bloody hard way.

My point being though, If North get a offer too good to say no to on draft night or there’s a guy they werent expecting there and they take him what do AFL do?

What if West Coast take Curtin and then GC for some random reason don’t match a bid? What do AFL do?

Would get the popcorn out that’s for sure
The AFL sign off on every draft pick, and every pick trade.

They’d simply tell North what they can and can’t do.

As they should too, when they’re literally being given so much assistance.

Thus far the only compensation the roos have been given was a future 2nd and 3rd which they had to trade out, which netted them Griffin Logue & Darcy Tucker.

I have no issues with them being given a mid 1st round pick this year but even that will end up at pick 14-15 after academy bids.

It's not like they got the assistance that Gold Coast were given Pick 1 & 20 and then pick 11 and pick 19.

Gold Coast then absolutely took the piss and traded a future 1st which was pick 11 for Jeremy Sharp who was pick 27.

This should be the last time the Roos get given assistance.

One for the atomic 'walk him to the PSD' crew.

If a bid comes on McCabe inside the first round we would have to give up at least 788 points.

Outside of our first rounder we presently have pick 29 and 48 which only gets us 955 points. So essentially we would from the draft with two first round talents, which is nice, but that is it. Unless we get creative and get another first rounder - but let's face it when was the last time we negotiated one of those deals before trade night?

Even if WCE gave us picks 52 and 57 for Brockman we could at least still look at coming away from the night with another player - or contemplate getting another second rounder in somewhere and bidding on Jiath as well. I would much rather the club not get the optimal price for Brockman, but still having additional flexibility on draft night then just being stroppy and letting him walk for free.

If we can get pick 33/38 with some pick swapping down the line - great. If we have to settle for some later picks - sure that's disappointing but we need this draft to work for us as well. We are not in a position to just piss away picks to play hardball, make an example or whatever tough phrase you want to use. We have to be bloody smart this draft, not petulant.
Question- if we go into points deficit but have traded away our f1, will the f1 value shrink or does it just come out of our remaining picks?

The past few years it has felt like we have been on the wrong side more often of trades.

The tide will turn at some stage!!!
I can’t think of us “winning” a trade since 2004

Edit oops just remembered lake was a pick downgrade in 2nd round. So that’s the most recent “win”

Hawks bigfooty: Bell/Dodoro/Cripps/Wells are such flogs who overvalue their players and are dicks at the trade table.

Hawks bigfooty: (shriek of a 6 year old who got told no) WE SHOULD FIRE BROCKMAN INTO THE SUN IF WE DON’T GET A KING’S RANSOME OF PICKS!!!!
Most just want a useful asset, 38 and i have no issues. If it is 52 i would just say cya you can wait an extra few weeks.

Really? The kid is the AA captain...
Either open your eyes or be fair dinkum!

We should be going hell for leather to bring in McKay we have an abundance of cap room, if our offer is 7 years at close to 5m so be it.

First 2 seasons each 1m, the remaining 5 years would be close to 600k which wouldn't hinder signing any of our young stars.

Our weapon is our salary cup space use it, we could be bringing our chb for the next 7 years without using any draft capital.

Whatever it takes, just get it done.

Re Brockman. There is a small cost to WCE if they get Tyler via the PSD. That is, they don't get to use Pick 1 in the PSD on any other nominated player. Likewise, a small benefit to us in that we move up 1 "live" selection in the PSD. Not worth a great deal, but a small cost/benefit nevertheless. Therefore, unless we receive a ND pick with some points attached, we are probably better off letting Tyler go via the PSD.
