How could any of you suggest he could be put up for trade? Especially to those handbaggers? We grew him, he's ours! He's Hawthorn through and through.

Because he's the most replaceable and least versatile of our deep midfield unit, and the club quite clearly wants Reid but would need to sacrifice someone to achieve this.

Seems like DGB was mentioned in early chatter about potential trades, but not so much anymore... Did the club rule that out publicly, or are we taking silence as a sign there's nothing happening?
Contracted and doesn’t want to leave. Club have told him he’s not going to be traded at this point, but he knows 2024 is big.

JUH manager will be calling hawks management weekly to continuously pump up the price.

I wouldn't have thought JUH would need the Hawks to pump up his price. I am sure some club will come with an even more ridiculous offer than what Naughton was offered to get JUH next year. Collingwood and Sydney are right in the frame.

The Hawks better start thinking of these 8-10 year deals if they are to ever to lure a high end KPP in the right age bracket. There's no point in saving this salary cap and paying players to play in premierships for other clubs. Let's use the money and get a King or JUH through the door next year.

DGB update for those who keep asking

Correct SYL - a massive pre season coming up for Shaggy

Spoke to him before the PCM - had his exit interview and asked Sam where he would be played in 2024 - Sam told him that the club see him as a forward, so he is going to be working on his forward craft over the off season.

Derm is at this stage going to be his mentor and assist him with his forward craft as well.

Also, lots of people saying he wants to head home or be traded back to Perth - he's settled in Melbourne and really enjoys it here and has no inkling to return home.

Things are always fluid but ideally head of development Andy Collins believes DGB can become a versatile tall who can play either end of the ground.

I don't think you can recontract and then trade the player in the same year. Might be wrong, but I remember reading this.

Great news, I liked the small snippet i sore off him up forward he crashed packs and competed well.
Build that tank in the off season repeated second efforts, and hold those marks. Dermie can make him a smart footballer!

Surely they won't give up 23 so that leaves 37, based on what picks they have currently.
We're probably waiting to see if they end up with something else in-between from any #1 trade swaps perhaps.

Hopefully we have a contract in place as we don’t want another Brockman situation.

Any more news on the pick swap with dogs as there is nothing on it in the news that doggies are even looked at it must be very hush hush.

Considering the circumstances, I'd probably just take pick 44.

I feel as though come final day that's what will happen.

We may well be waiting to see if Eagles will trade Pick 1 for one of pick 2/3 + atleast 2 of the norths teens pick ( 15,17,18)

If that happens Eagles may happily add pick 53 as well to the mix or a F3/F4.

I expect Eagles to on draft night swap one of the teens pick for 2 of suns pick in 20's & 30's. Will give them the best hand to trade in Quality WA talent. Atleast 4 quality WA talent in the 15-40 range.

the hold up likely is that North are willing to part with only 1 teens pick and Eagles may be asking for all 3.

I hope clubs make bids on Walter and Read within the Top 5 picks. Easily worth it. Walter should be bid on at Pick 1 IMO too.

Read was Top 3 in 2Km time trial at Combine. Impressive for a very tall bloke.

Only reason we don't bid on either should be because Suns asked us not to as they made a deal for Chol with a 3rd round pick

the current draft order by clubs is

I wish Dodoro was our list manager. That guy is a genuine a$$hole every trade season and Essendon have an absolute gangbusters list as a result.
Very well constructed. Must say was reading all the way up to the end thinking WTF are you on about. Well played.

I like us playing hardball this period. Irrespective of where these trades land this year and even if some are walked to the PSD, it is a great investment on resetting external mindset on trading with the Hawks. Be serious or heck off.
