At 22 yrs / 20 games, he's already a competent stopper. Doesn't get much of it but his job is to stop goals, not rack up possessions.

If you miss a trade target you dont push the panic button and just get anyone for the sake of it.
Mckay is a nice to have but not a necessity and the price just got crazy .

I like what we are doing . Clear trade targets to improve the team that are available this year, but making plays at getting decent picks in too .
Plenty of thinking ahead for next year.

There is a lot to play out and people shouldn't react on one move that didnt go our way right now .

Its Ben Mckay, not Stephen Silvagni. The guys biggest asset is his size .

Lets be honest landing him would have been for now , but may very well impact us to land a genuine A grader rather than I hope this guy turns out ok for us .

I think the depth of this draft post the first several picks probably eliminates entertaining that option.

Agree. Remember we got Stratton as key back at the time as a mature ager. Ethan Phillips CHB in VFL team of the year and Jarrod Blight WAFL CHB team of the year. Get them both in with late picks

Have been bullish on Jacob Blight all year. Would be a great get. 195cm and 95 kg. Attacks the contest hard aswell. Got some mongrel in him like Sam Taylor. Got another 19 possessions and 9 marks last week in the prelim final.

James has a great athletic profile and his skills and decision making are sound.

He's actually the definition of 'boom or bust' potential.

It's all about developing the game smarts now. Once he (hopefully) has that confidence he could easily be an 8-10 year player for us.

I am happy to go through the list of misses next week, it wouldn’t even get me out of bed with the types compared to our position for a flag. No point in overpaying when we aren't ready, especially for someone that is in the bottom end of performers.

Sicily definitely needs help but not at the detriment of cap and culture to pay over rated spuds that want top dollar, I wouldn’t mistake how much impact it does to cap/culture and future contracts if we were to pay Mackay $800k.

Afl seems to be devoid of quality talls though which is causing this for all clubs.

And none of the above is to say we shouldn’t try but let’s not think we have missed out on a premiership defining acquisition.

And on the flip side we push someone to choose the worst performing club in the last 20 years at top dollar and continue their perpetual non existent finals stretch…
