Lack of ability is his biggest obstacleThe problem with Bonar is that he is likely to keep getting rubbed out
Always been stiff to get rubbed outThe problem with Bonar is that he is likely to keep getting rubbed out
Wtf do you mean papering over cracks? That's not the reason to get him. Seems like most of you actively avoid watching Geelong games, but Tom Hawkins is one of the most savvy forwards in the competition. He is fairly unique in his ability to set up scores for his entire forward line, he's a big reason behind Geelongs ability to score in bunches and he's the perfect guy to help develop Lewis.I haven't heard much about his coaching potential, but merely as a player, I would say no!
As a rebuilding team you do not want to paper over cracks.
You want to expose them by giving players experience and seeing who can stand up and/or improve.
This gives us data on where we need to focus without superficially improving results.
Sustainable improvements with players who can grow on the list together.
Agree. I think this is us for the week. With Kosi moving on.So I have moved on from the Reid dream now North have declared they are in for him. Armed with 2,3,14 and 20 we simply don’t stand a chance.
Pick 4 Chol and Massimo will have to do .

I could never embrace him, I still have that horrible image of him in my head with that s**t eating grin on his face kicking the goal after the siren against us.
Has band 1 for McKay been confirmed?
I thought the club said it’s not bringing in anyone over 28. Why are we chatting about Hawkins at 35?
DING DONG
The trade period has begun and I’m back. Reincarnated, and alert to the rules set by moderators. I have made a pledge to be a better poster from now on. To make amends from my previous ‘nuisance’ posting, I will be adding value to this forum by posting some information I possess, as well as my opinions.
1. Any pick salary dump scenario is looking unlikely. This is unfortunate as we are one of the very few sides capable to do so. No club currently in a dire situation like GC and Jack Bowes last year.
2. Maurice Rioli Jr is a possibility in the Kosi deal. Unlikely - but if the Tigers are firm on their evaluation, our team will sound out the small forward. Hawks are after a small forward who can chase and tackle.
3. All systems go for Harley Reid. This is Hawthorn’s number one priority. By far the standout player. Could be generational. But Hawks will need to do their due diligence on his concussion history. Concussions obviously massive in todays game with all the protocols. Same will apply for all other draftees. If a potential draftee has concussion history, it is seen as a big risk and key factor for consideration.
4. Will McCabe could attract a top 10 bid. Many clubs rate him as the best key position prospect after Jed Walter. Hawks will have to be ready.
5. Aiden Bonar a name flagged. Yet to be offered a contract by the Roos. Could be a delisted free agent option.
6. OPINION on Jack Ginnivan - is burnt toast without the umpires. No good. No weapons. Hawks can do a lot better.
7. Bailey Smi… oh wait. You didn’t seriously think I was going there did you?
Great to be back Hawkers. Big 2 months coming up.
Because we want free agents and no free agent that we want wants to join. We need experience to help lift up the performance level of the group. An experienced kpp would be a huge benefit.I thought the club said it’s not bringing in anyone over 28. Why are we chatting about Hawkins at 35?
It would be stop gap (one year?) and curtail development of Ryan, Ramsden, Chol etc for a short term (maybe) gain.Because we want free agents and no free agent that we want wants to join. Its easier to bring on one or two players into an established forward line than trying bring them all on together. Chol would play in the same forward line and benefit from lewis and hawkins taking better opponents. I think the other two have time to develop and wont be hurt by some more time in the vfl. We will likely have injuries or rest players and if they show they are up to afl then we can always park hawkins and play them.It would be stop gap (one year?) and curtail development of Ryan, Ramsden, Chol etc for a short term (maybe) gain.
Playing with a guy like Hawkins isn't going to curtail the development of anyone. I can't stand him as a Geelong player but I can see the many ways he makes his teammates better, and he'd do the same for us.It would be stop gap (one year?) and curtail development of Ryan, Ramsden, Chol etc for a short term (maybe) gain.
It's a fair point.Playing with a guy like Hawkins isn't going to curtail the development of anyone. I can't stand him as a Geelong player but I can see the many ways he makes his teammates better, and he'd do the same for us.
Asking for a top 25 pick for Koschitzke is a good start! Tiggers top pick is 27 which will be pushed back to early 30's.MM is great at identifying talent it seems, but his negotiating skills haven’t shone through to this point. Hope he can step up in that regard from now on and the freight train gets some more momentum
It's not happening.Playing with a guy like Hawkins isn't going to curtail the development of anyone. I can't stand him as a Geelong player but I can see the many ways he makes his teammates better, and he'd do the same for us.
