The only players I’m attached to and invested in are:
  • King
  • Owens
  • Nasiah
  • Windhager
  • Phillipou
  • Higgins
  • Whoever we draft this year
To a slightly lesser extent, Caminiti, Hotton, Byrnes, Keeler, Van Es, McLennan, Adams, Heath, Peris as young developing players I rate and wouldn’t be worth trading or delisting. Maybe Paton fits in here as well. And that new Irish bloke we just recruited.

Coffield, Clark are borderline, still young enough to be guns and make an impact with the above players. Battle, Sharman, Stocker and potentially Liam Henry too = good players worth more to us than on the trade table, and young enough to be peaking when we’re in our window.

Maturer players who are integral to our current side:
  • Steele
  • Wilkie
  • Marshall
  • Crouch
  • Sinclair
  • Howard / Cordy
  • Webster
  • Hill
  • Wood
  • Butler
  • Gresham
  • Membrey
  • Ross

I love most of these players, they’re the core of our best 22, in the right age range for the now, and have a variety of experience from premierships to leadership roles.

You couldn’t trade all of them and do a ‘north Melbourne’, but personally, if the club saw fit to trade one or two of them to bring something valuable in to fit in with the first group of players I listed, I won’t be complaining. We need to start transitioning to that first group of players if we want to actually build a team that can compete in the top four in a few seasons time. The hard part is balancing the list so that we don’t bottom out too hard, but you’ve gotta break some eggs eventually… we are LUCKY that Windhager and Owens fell into our hands, that won’t happen again anytime soon.

The leftovers:
  • Billings
  • Mckenzie
  • Jones
  • Hayes
  • Allison
  • Bytel
  • Campbell
  • Connolly
  • Highmore
These are probably a mix of potential delisted players and injury prone players. Can’t see us getting rid of Hayes for example, but he’s played what 7 games for us and is a mature aged recruit so idk where else to fit him. Billings might be worth something.

TLDR; I’m in the ‘we need to make some tough list calls to make a difference’ camp, because what we do this off season and the next will probably be the ones which shape the quality of our list in this decade.

If we continue to build for the long term and from the draft or from players traded in at an early age (aka before 22/23 years old) we will have a bonded list capable of a sustained period of success. We’ve got to bring the players through together in waves, it’s hard but that’s how the best clubs do it.

Don't know if it was Morris or Twomeys but one of them was on SEN and said that North's application to prelist Sanders is going to be declined by the AFL.

The league will grant them NGA access but he will need to fall outside the top 20 ala Owens/Windy for North to match any bid.

On the flip side, they are 100% getting pick 3 for McKay.

Remains to be seen if any later priority/assistance picks will be allocated.
This is excellent work by Laura Kane (her 2nd big tick in a week).

It also makes GC's #4 an even more attractive target.

He's a gun but aren't the AFL gifting him to North for being too stupid to walk upright? Probably better to look at Phillips because they will have one of the best on ball brigades in footy and won't be able to fit them all in. Wardlaw. LDU, Scott, Phillips, Simpkin, Tarryn Thomas and still have guys like Darcy Tucker and Greenwood in reserve. Getting Harley Reid as well in all likelihood.

Probably the best stack of midfield talent in any side ever. That doesn't include guys who pinch hit or play wings and high HF.
Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if they take 2 KPP players with pick 2 and 3 if WC take Reid.

They'll have the best under 23 list on paper since GWS in its first couple of seasons.

As it should be.

Richmond were (by design) the worst clearance team in the comp during that time though.

They weren't kicking goals (and winning games) from clearances.
They were winning and kicking goals off turnovers.

Tigers clearance strategy didnt win them 3 flags- their list and chaosball bombs (after opposition turnovers, not their own clearances) did.

True but they were happy to dump kick in and lock in inside 50. I think that without much in the way of inside mids they had to design a game plan around what they had. They'd let you win the ball, apply pressure on the ball carrier and the next possession. Once they got it they'd slingshot it forward and lock it down and happy to take multiple shots. Never said it was from clearance. Just saying that long kicking inside 50 isn't a big issue if you can lock it in. It's not like they never won a clearance either. Just not their primary focus.

good point, exit interviews happened. any word on whos going?
Lyon said, that there will be a list management meeting after the second round of exit interviews today.
Team will be brought in to review the final on the week then they are off until preseason.
Suppose we find out the delistings late this, early next week.

Can #4 be seriously got? Or is it a bit of a fantasy?
They need points for NGA right?

Dogs are in the box seat to get it with picks 10 and pick 15-18.

Pretty sure they changed the rules back so you can only have the amount of picks on draft night that you have list spots available so GC still need some decent picks to match the 3 or 4 bids they will have.
