First reserves game Ive missed in a while; how'd Gardiner and AhChee go?
Gardiner played his usual game kept his opponent quiet and was solid at full back did nothing spectacular and played a solid game. Ah Chee also played his usual game and obviously was our game changer in the last quarter. Didn’t play that much in the forward line until the last quarter and made the most of his opportunities. We are lucky to have him in the reserves.

If McKenna or Wilmot were to miss a game say through suspension, I wonder if Ah Chee or Answerth would take their spot or if the coaches would opt for Madden as a like for like with his run and dash.

Mckenna - Madden
Wilmot - Ah Chee
Heard on the grapevine the coaches think Madden will make it once he improves his kicking ,which apparently he's doing this year.

They also rate Ah Chee talent and effort wise but he's had 2 quad injuries this year and hasn't been able to get properly fit.

I'd be surprised if they both don't get contracts.

Answerth!

P.S. Didn't mind the rest of the commentary though ;)

Watched the game but TBH no one really impressed me.
Answerth appeared to spend a lot of time forward but hard to tell watching on a PC.

These match reports are so underwhelming and really just regurgitate raw stats, only 3 words had a descriptive bent ie. dominated, busy and solid.

I doubt these reporters actually watch these games at the ground or even on the broadcast.

The heading is from "staff writers" so most likely Whiting.
He in turn may not necessarily watch the game but gets fed basic information from the club. And of course, stats are available.
It is better than nothing and the article does cover all the teams.
The vast majority of fans would not bother watching or attending games but like to read something about the VFL.

IMO VFL games are the perfect opportunity to develop intern writers/younger writers looking at breaking into the sports journalism industry.

Answerth has been playing the Zorko role in the VFL this season.

I think Answerth would do a better job than Linc at present and definitely keep the ball in our forward line a lot better than most of the current forwards
Defensive pressure would go way up, but quality ball use would go way down

You only have to look at some of the delivery inside 50 that Linc is about to provide as to why he's been keeping his spot. But he has a tendency to give up the defensive chasing a bit, hoping for a turnover ahead of the field so he can run back towards goal.

He's not alone in this however.

Undermanned-looking team today. Might be a bit of a battle. Bloke playing for Richmond, #65, has hair straight out of 1973 and I am suitably impressed. They also have a 69.
Nice.
