Still don’t see a bottom 6 team trade a F1 for what will be Pick 28. The suns traded pick 11 in the following years draft for 27 to draft Jeremy Sharp a few years ago, that was a compo pick and was fixed at 11 so no fear of having a bad season and potentially trading out a top 3 pick. Best you could hope for at pick 28 is one of the prelim finalists really liking someone who in their minds have slid a long way, Brisbane, Sydney, Port and Cats.
I don’t see a bottom 6 team trading their F1 for what is currently pick 24 either, but there are other teams between the bottom 6 and the potential top 4, and I also agree with what you said at the end. I’ve been saying for days that an F1 like Geelong’s will be worth about pick 28.

Especially if that pick is the first pick on night 2.

This narrative about next year's draft being that poor is vastly inaccurate.
WA's crop next year is far better than their crop this year, for a start

How many from this years crop were in last year’s AA team as UA?

FOS was one, Levi Ashcroft and Sid Draper. I don’t think there were others. Not like there were 10 and this year was just a different batch.
No it wasn’t, but it doesn’t need to be, because simple odds would tell you that a draft this deep with quality doesn’t come around often- and this is something even recruiters are saying, and you know it’s good when so many clubs are delisting guys that they’d normally keep- so even without knowing who’s coming up next year, the likelihood is that pick 22 this year would be worth about pick 30 in just about every other draft.

I think there will be unreal players next year, just going by the videos being posted of them.
Of course there will. It sounds like a lot of them are tied to particular clubs through FS or their academies though, which is part of the reason why it’s being said that clubs F1’s aren’t going to be worth as much as they usually would.

I don’t wanna lose our F1 unless we are getting value for it. But I’m not Brady and we’ve gotta trust the process
I’m sure you don’t, and you probably won’t. Chances are, you’ll trade your F2.

In some drafts, sure. But with all the likely compromise at the top of next years draft, and the fact that it’s extremely unlikely to have the depth of quality (in the “open draft”) that this one does, your F1 next year could easily be pushed back into the 20’s.

And all the evidence suggests that clubs right now would rate a pick in the 20’s in this years draft much higher than they rate a pick in the 20’s next year.

So they’ll look at your F1 as potentially being pick 22 or even worse next year, and that that is worth about pick 30 in this much deeper looking draft.

As such, to get your hands on one of Richmond’s picks, you’d almost certainly have to pay more than your F1. Especially with multiple other clubs potentially also trying to trade their F1’s for those same picks.
you're probably right, I didn't factor in the demand from other teams for the tigers picks.
can't see cats offering more than a future first so I guess they might try target a trade in later
in the draft for a cheaper price.

I’m interested to see if this happens too. Clubs, especially one like North, would be crazy to be offering up a F1 for pick 20……unless we have a serious obsession with a bloke that’s drifted that far. So who knows.
And that is exactly what happens, Its not the Number of the Pick but the player thats available

e.g Pick #18 Jobe Shannahan is available
Bombers will jump at a F1 for #18

North may rate Jack Whitlock and do the same

Geelong loom and see Gerryn is available at #20 and offer F1+#45

2nd day clubs have had time to assess what players are still on the board and Eagles think wow Cooper Hynes is still on the board and offer Hawks F1

Im not sure how many picks Richmond will trade out but im thinking is 2 into next year and we take 6 picks
maybe 7 if we get a later pick back with 1 of these trades

If that is the case and North think like you do then it would make so much sense for North to offer pick #2 to Essendon
2 x F1's + #28 + #31 for Pick #2 + F2

Yeah I don’t think things are that black and white.
Next year’s draft looks ok so we trade out our pick 2 for bombres F1’s and change? There’s so many machinations that allow us to be involved in both. No side’s giving up pick 2 for what you’ve suggested.
We shuffle back a couple or we don’t. You don’t throw away the 2nd pick in any draft for a chance at something. We also need players now, gun players. Pick 2 gives us a serious possibility of that.
