What is everyone seeing in bo Allen to have him ranked so high? Power athlete not to dissimilar to ginbey before he was drafted, and like ginbey isn't a natural ball winner through the middle. Ginbey hasn't improved in that area in 2 seasons, averaging 15 possessions with over 80% gametime this year. And because it doesn't seem natural for him to play through the middle you don't see any of those athletic traits pre draft he got picked so highly for.
Is Allen not the same? His stats for peel seniors despite a couple run with roles werent great and peel were the best team in it.

So they should abandon the CTL is what you are saying? You don’t think that disadvantages the other kids not at private schools?
There wouldn’t be many opportunities to test yourself against your peers though. Even the private schools don’t have 18+ gun level kids in their sides. Would be a lot of games for the recruiters to try and see. That would equal a lot of draft busts down the line, you’d think.
To me it’s a pretty good system, but maybe there’s a better way.
It might be okay for a kid at oakleigh or Sandringham, that's the 12th best player on a list, but the country kids rack up the ks to just train, let alone play, where all the good kids in their team have a scholarship and hardly play. Look at Finn osullivan, Koroit boy gets scholarship and plays for Sandringham, not the falcons. It's a terrible system.

The bendigo league had a grand final in the 80s where Greg Williams and ricky Nixon were on one side and Frank coughlan, Peter Rhode and gav excell were in the other side. Far better for their footy, play under 21 interleague as curtain raisers and blow up the Coates league tac cup, it's 30 years old and past it's use by date

Koroit/Warrnambool/Cobden/Hamilton/Horsham etc are GWV Rebels zones not the Geelong Falcons, same with Ugle-Hagan who played for the Rebels as a 16 year old then transferred his schooling to Scotch College and thus played for the Oakleigh Chargers the same as Finn O'Sullivan, Willem Drew a Koroit lad played for the Rebels as does this year's Koroit lad Mitch Lloyd.

Midfield Upside Upside Upside...

It's still a long drive from Koroit to Ballarat twice a week to train

With guys like him you’re paying a higher price because of what he MIGHT be. His ceiling is way high, so that’s worth taking a punt on.

And if that punt doesn’t come off, the worst case scenario is that you probably get an extremely useful option for the backline for a decade or more.

Certainly is, that's one of the reasons as a Crows supporter I've always preferred VC lads over VM lads because you know the country based lads have done the hard yards and go back to their local clubs when not required by the Rebels. We drafted Charlie Edwards last year who is actually a Bendigo lad who should have been playing for the Pioneers but played for the Sandy Dragons, not sure if it was on a sporting scholarship but it likely was.

Not sure i agree with ya Trent the flight Steward .......Isn't that part of living in the country? Things are a long way away. It's kind of life isn't it? A lot of people live in the country because they love it. People love the urban life so they choose to live in the inner city, or their work requires it or whatever. Certain things come with both those choices/situations, including driving distances, higher rent/housing, job opportunities, it's everything.
They've created leagues like CL or TAC cup in an attempt to pit similar aged kids against each other.
Maybe to the detriment of them playing against men, but they've got years to do that. I think it's good to see them against their peers to get a fair judgement of their ability.
But we can disagree, it's all good.

What’s happened to WA footy ? Some of the greatest ever players a have come from there. Always the most skilful footballers, just played the game effortlessly.
I know nothing about the football over there really, am genuinely interested. Has there been a drop off in investment etc? You wouldn’t expect there to be with the wealth etc of West Coast and the health of the game generally.
North have always had absolute guns come out of WA. Quite a few of our TOTC.
Cable, Rosco, Jimmy&Phil, Phil Kelly(FS rules changed and we got stitched) and Winston are some of my all time faves.
*I’m sure I’ve forgotten someone amazing on that above list.
WA footy is still strong. The media is Vic centric, so there’s that. Plenty of good footy players will come from WA still. Have 11% of Oz population, with around 18% on AFL lists. Recruiter told me that WA players are the big improvers when they make an AFL list

Dumb that they can’t squeeze a few more kids in. Especially those 2. One’s done and ACL and the other was a lock at pick 6 for 95% of the season, cops another concussion is person non grata.
Not good by the AFL
You don't want the kids just sitting there all night if they don't get drafted early. It becomes embarrassing for them.
