I think most of the first rounders get scholarships where they play school footy over Coates league, so why bother with Coates league. You have lists of 40 where 1 kid not on a scholarship might make it. Look at the money and travel involved for such a low draft rate, how's that good for the game, having kids taken away from their club with bugger all chance of getting drafted. Not sure i agree with ya Trent the flight Steward .......Isn't that part of living in the country? Things are a long way away. It's kind of life isn't it? A lot of people live in the country because they love it. People love the urban life so they choose to live in the inner city, or their work requires it or whatever. Certain things come with both those choices/situations, including driving distances, higher rent/housing, job opportunities, it's everything.
They've created leagues like CL or TAC cup in an attempt to pit similar aged kids against each other.
Maybe to the detriment of them playing against men, but they've got years to do that. I think it's good to see them against their peers to get a fair judgement of their ability.
But we can disagree, it's all good.
So doug Hawkins may have never played afl with the current system in place. Or dusty who left school at 15. It took him to 5 goals in a half against the reigning senior premiers in the bfl at 16 for the pioneers to finally look at himIt's so totally unfair that schools only give football scholarships to the kids who are good at football.
Yeah, all fair arguments, but I don't think you want 17 year olds playing weekly against men......think far too much risk for injury there, especially for KP players etc.I think most of the first rounders get scholarships where they play school footy over Coates league, so why bother with Coates league. I'd like to see the top 25 kids in the upcoming draft play for the ais in Canberra in the vfl. Have school footy and under 21 major league interleague with zoning to vfl clubs for top ups when vfl players are injured. That's a far better system than the Coates league
I'm hoping the Bulldogs take a swing on Will Hayes with a later pick.WA footy is still strong. The media is Vic centric, so there’s that. Plenty of good footy players will come from WA still. Have 11% of Oz population, with around 18% on AFL lists. Recruiter told me that WA players are the big improvers when they make an AFL list
How high will he go do you reckon?Hotton will 1000 % get drafted in the first round so it doesn't really matter anyway.
How high will he go do you reckon?
Definitely a player a few clubs might be willing to take a risk on with an earlier pick.
We took a look at his highlights last week and he can seriously play!
question just becomes how high is too high with the pick used to get him.
I'm definitely hoping that having a larger amount of picks plays into our favor when it comes to selecting someone like Hotton. You would think that Richmond is well placed with their multitude of draft picks to take that risk.
I would think at worst if he hits 20, a team takes him in those few picks late first round.I'm definitely hoping that having a larger amount of picks plays into our favor when it comes to selecting someone like Hotton.
Can't see him slipping to 2nd round.

Good fit for GWS too. Got Darcy there to show him the ropes on recovery. Slick playerI would think at worst if he hits 20, a team takes him in those few picks late first round.

Yep tigers will go mids with their top couple and hotton will be next. They need a quality small fwdFor me 6-12 is his range (I would expect Richmond to take him at 10 or 11). If he's available past ports pick I'd be surprised and if he is teams will be trying to trade up to take him. I doubt he gets past 20.
I think 2, F2 for 10,18,20 would be the trade. He'll go to the tigers at 10 or 11. Still think the tigers will use 10 18 and 20 for 2 and north will want 3 good players in that aren't mids to balance their list
Don't discount Berry at 11, excellent foot skills which I think are a priority with YzeYep tigers will go mids with their top couple and hotton will be next. They need a quality small fwd
Hotton apparently hasn’t been invited to the draft. There’s zero chance he’s going in the 6-10 range
Geez I hope not. That’s effectively 10 and 18 for 2 …….fairly big “slide back a couple of spots”I think 2, F2 for 10,18,20 would be the trade.

They get the top 10 up on the stage though. If he was any chance of going that high he’d be invited. There's history with players not being invited into the draft night 1 and going top 15. Also the fact that some teams have multiple picks at the top end skews it this year. I'd be very surprised if he doesn't go that early.
