Hypothetically, if we did get pick 2 for Houston, who would you draft?

Would it be Draper other than for the reason of sticking it up the crows?
If he willing to play as a small forward for the first 80 games of his career. Take the Heeney route to becoming a star!

Smilie all day

I know this doesnt answer your question directly but, if we had pick 2, I would be trying to split that pick. Lets say Richmond get 9 and 16 from Freo for Bolton, I would try swap for those 2 picks.

Would then draft Tauru with 9 and with pick 16 I'd take Hotton, Trainor or Lindsay in that order.

Draper does not have the skillset to operate as a small forward like Heeney did imo. His kicking is not as elite as Heeney's

Would love to pick up Joe Berry, who is a classy small forward. Expected to go around pick 15 (which would have been our first round pick). Would be a massive upgrade on Evans / McEntee.

I don’t know berry , but drafting a small forward with a high pick would make me nervous. Rather go an elite mid and look for small forwards with mid draft picks

Dunno. Draper is perfect for us in some ways, but so are some other mids as well.

This draft is known for its evenness at the top end, while most years you would love to get into the top 2, this year it wouldn’t bother me so much. For instance if the choice was just 2, or say 11 and future 1st I want the latter.

If we got 2 my ideal scenario would be to trade down , preferably with Gold Coast and take 6 plus some other goodies.

No. Draper would be fun and a gun but perhaps the best option would be to split the pick if a deal can be done with Gold Coast or Richmond if we can get next year's 1st away from them and still end up with a high end pick this year.

There's 6-7 mids there that would start round one and good luck picking the best of them.

We could still end up with Draper at pick 8. Or Reid. Or Smillie.

I don't mind the idea we could set up for Sharp in next years draft as well.

Let's say we get 2 picks between 8 and 16 for Houston and we move up the board for another pick between 20-25.

I'd aim to draft Tauru, Hotton with the 2 firsts and then Ollie Hannaford with the pick between 20-25.

Then take Barrett who'll be immediately able to play as a pressure small forward. The 3 F/S using whatever pick is left/rookie.

To top it off, if we can get Polkinghorne with a late pickh Then I'd give a permanent contract to Jason Cripps and the drafting department.

Meh. Our midfield is pretty well set for a decade. Our small forwards are McEntee, Evans and Narkle.

I'm no draft expert so I don't know enough about individual draftees to comment on them, but looking back on last year's draft, someone like Nick Watson would do much more for our list balance right now than any midfielder in that draft not named Harley Reid would.

Eh. The problem is you go back and look at drafts and how many small forwards have been taken that you would still pay a high pick for. Not many.

Again it’s a generalisation, which doesn’t always apply to individuals.

But yeah, much prefer we go after small forwards with mid to late picks, where they’re found all the time. I think recruiters have a hard time quantifying small forward form in lower leagues to how they’ll play in the afl.

Yeah our midfield is pretty close, I think we’re still working out our best mix there and it doesn’t seem quite right. Hard to say yet whether it’s the mix or the coaching setups etc or as I suspect a little bit of both.

We arguably need to replace wines shortly, and I think a young explosive bigger bull is probably the player we need to put next to butters , jhf , drew and rozee.

We saw in the sanfl this year we really had next to no onballers. Sinn who’s developing as a halfback/ wing. Lorenz as a wing, and Jackson, and who knows what he can be if he can stay on the park. But there’s certainly no bulls there.

Lol Draper doesn't want to be drafted by the crows, concerns about their handling of young players. Rachele cited as an example. :tearsofjoy:

How do you know this?
Can we control who drafts him, ie can they say no?

Officially, you can't say no, it's draft tampering, unless you're a Victorian kid. But you can make it clear you don't want to go to the club. The ball is then in their court.

Draper would prefer going to a Vic club according to the report, so that's probably ok with the AFL.

Is he mates with Hornet? Maybe wanting to go to a Vic club is a smoke screen?

I loved he’s saying no to Crows lol
