Whilst Cal is pretty good with the early dozen picks and who they'll go to, the latter picks are pure guesswork.
I wouldn't be banking too heavily on any scribe's opinion especially as i personally think we'll successfully upgrade anyway.
I have heard a strong link to Hamish Davis & also strong interest in Taj Hotton, but most likely need to trade up for either

As I posted earlier, whilst I hadn't heard anything solid regarding Cody I have heard a few things about Hotton and our interest in him.
Wonder if he's the one we actually have our eye on in trading up.

If Carlton’s F1 and F2 was enough to trade for our pick 14, wouldn’t Carlton’s F1 and our 33 be worth something around 12-16? I get we need a F3 back but can’t imagine that’s a big needle mover.

This has been explained multiple time and yet this trade scenario continues for some to be dumbfounding. It's not going to be an equitable trade.

I'm not too sure but I think the afl can still ok these kinds of trades if the clubs ask for it. Pretty sure it got done a few years ago.

I've only ever heard that is an option for the 'must take at least 2 firsts across every 4 drafts' rule where teams can sometimes seek permission to trade firsts which would put them in a position where they'd breach this rule.

IIRC Port tried to do it in the first iteration of the JHF mega-trade and was denied it.

oh please, fans talking out diff scenarios doesn't mean they don't know how trading works.

On that basis, given we are only taking one pick and want an early pick, the pick 14 trade with Blues doesn't seem right on hindsight.

Could have traded for Barrass with F1+33 if the Eagles were not such pricks with an eye on our pick 14.

Would have meant we kept Pick 14 and our F1 and the premium for pick 14 now is surely greater than Blues F1+F2.

I hear North are wanting to trade their F1 for a straight teens pick. Doesn't seem like a Equitable trade but they are the ones offering.

picks 18-23 would realistically be what we could net for f1 +33 . If there's a player the club rates highly in that range I'd be happy for them to pull the trigger. Apparently hotton and trainor haven't been invited to draft night, so if our interest in hotton is true he could be a chance to get through.

Thats the point being made by tl92.

Pick 14 was F1+F2, so how can pick 18 be the same deal? Laughable if someone offers that for 23 which will be 27.

Lets not normalise ridiculous demands when recent history is against it.

Many here were elated with F1+f2 for 14 and I did point out it was a average deal & we should have done better. No takers for that view then.

IMO HFC erred in not pushing back at the 2 first rounders media pitch when it was first made. The silence and the silent support for that here by ITK's gave the indication that we were going to pay that. We normalised that & hence got in trouble with Eagles digging in.

Given how we were firm during trade week, we should have clearly told Pick 14 is not on table and Eagles & Tigers would have readjusted expectations( just like Dogs did with Cats) & maybe we would have retained pick 14. Effectively its the Tigers who managed to take pick 14 by managing media.

Eagles got F1+F2+F3 ( -F4) & likely would have been happier with F1+33 & we kept pick 14

PS : I am fine making the deal if our target player is available but lets not pretend like this is normal.

Because if you are trading on draft night to target one specific player then you pay the cherry on top. I don’t know what the values are but as it is your last chance to get said player, if you want them bad enough you pay or you miss out.

Is Hotton the one we would trade up for?
I have no clue whether the club would look to trade up for him specifically, but I know of two sources that watch the kids and they both claim that he could be the best performer in the AFL of this year’s draftees.

What position does he play & who would you compare him to?

Is he a Medium Forward? Seemed it, from the short highlight clip that I saw.

You are still railing on about an equitable trade. Get over it if we do a trade for draft picks it will be on draft night for a specific player if that player is available. This trade will NOT be equitable. I am sure after we do the trade if it happens u will rally the troops for an enquiry even though I have tried to explain it multiple times that this is what will happen

Was explained to me as a dynamic player that makes things happen, both in midfield and forward. Kicks a lot of goals, even when playing on ball. He is probably something we don’t have at present.

On offensively-focused Will Day-type?

Exactly why I was against trading pick 14 then, we would have extracted more value on Draft night, lot more value.

Happy to pay cherry on top not the whole fricking cake.

And I have repeatedly said happy to pay a non-equitable price if the player is available. What we are doing now is filling time till draft night to figure out what such a trade would look like.

For pick 14 if F1+F2 was the value, then cherry would be another F2 or early F3 for same pick 14

For pick 18, F1 by itself is overs & since we need a f3, adding our 33 satisfies the Cherry on top rule.

Once the trade is done, we live with it.. We should normalise querying if we could have done better so we learn for future.

Not sure which clip you have seen but this game in particular I am told Taj had a day out and shows the exact type of player he is.

After watching it myself, I can see why he is thought of very highly. Has great balance and decision making and looks to have plenty of time on the ball.

I know Sheezel started in defence at North, but he reminds me of him the way he moves and kicks. That’s off the limited footage I have seen of him though 😛

Like the look of this kid.

Will struggle at Hawthorn. No real goal celebration to speak of and considering he kicks a few this would be a real limitation. Does tackle though and that gets Taj a few bonus points.

Cal has him going at 15 in his Phantom which is a fair way from our pick 33.
