So they gave up pick 2 and 3 for pick 27?

Now, I'm not a smart man, but that doesn't sound very smart. Stupid is as stupid does.
no, they gave up their future 1st for Tigers 27 and Future 2nd.

But if LDU would have got them a tier 1 compo, and they actually did finish 17th, then would that equate to picks 2 and 3? Future 2nd is just a side of chips in that deal.

Smells like a Clarko move.

Trading out a 2nd for old man Daniel and a future 1st for a pick in the late 20s.

Either it's a genius stroke and North rise up the ladder and the unjustifiable trade is somehow justifiable (I can't imagine any scenario it is outside of North miraculously making it to the top 8)

OR

Clarko walks away from footy with a nice payout and leaves it up to somebody else to pick up the pieces.

Win win for Clarko.

They don't have a future 1st anymore, Richmond have it.

If they get compo, they'll get a solitary pick.

Any compo pick they get next year isn't affected by having traded out their pick beforehand. In your scenario they'd still get Pick 3.
