Surely we are due for a kid to just come in and star right?
Was looking like a top 15 pick early I think? Slid way down to 62. Probably took a while to mature as a person but let's hope he has a great Saints career.Seems a long way from the pre season when stories appeared in the media reporting Arie being sent to train with the Sandy boys.
Our club played it with a straight bat however that didn’t stop certain parts of the media, and many opposition supporters, from speculating. Apparently he had messed up again, or was unfit or whatever. Some further opined that he was probably on his way out of St Kilda before a game had been played.
Many opposition supporters simply didn’t want to see the Saints score a win with a late draft pick.
Anyway the young Tasmanian has been very impressive on the track and in all games since the VFL season began.
His debut is very well earned indeed.
Respect

Darcy almost qualifies.
Pretty rare for 194cm players to have much impact in their first year.
But there is a third McCartin!if any of us are getting excited about pick 4 and 5 i feel we should take a lie down and work on some breathing
No current season stats available
Dunno. Zac Dawson ended up pretty good for us…Webster out as the Charlie Cameron match-up would hurt. Hope it's just precautionary.
I hope Arie isn't sub, but based on available evidence it might be a strong likelihood.
Brisbane do have a first year third tall forward match-up that would suit him well (Morris) so would love to see him play a full game with Cordy (Daniher), Battle (Hipwood), Wilkie (Cameron if Webster is out) around him.
Agree with a few posts ago. Don't want to see Ben Brown kicking 5 goals on Jackson Ferguson in the first quarter again.
We may just have thrown the towel in now. Got Lions at home, Sydney, Port and Crows in Adelaide the next month.Seems a strange game for Arie to debut considering the other potential outs. Cordy in I'd have thought was a no brainer for Howard with their two talls. If Webster misses Paton is probably a good option for Cameron. Arie could most easily (imo) play the Bonner role but can't see them dropping him. Hard to know what they're thinking right now, roll on six o'clock!
We should know by now that Lyon football in 2024 is virtually unwatchable. We may just have thrown the towel in now. Got Lions at home, Sydney, Port and Crows in Adelaide the next month.
Only chance of a win is Crows. I am more interested in how we play as opposed to the win/loss ratio.
Can Lyon actually get us to play a semi watchable brand of footy?
Great to see Arie in. We are in for some real thumpings the next month.
The club needs to give us a look at the kids to keep us interested. Give us something to be excited for next year.
Watching a team full of kids get smacked doesn't interest me at all.
Might be up there with my worst calls haha. Very happy to be wrong though, always good to see a Tassie boy gets the chance to shine.Looks like your gut feel was incorrect

The kids don’t always get smacked

Do hope we aren't planning to play him as a pure KPD though
Reported as personal reasons. Any insights?NWM wasn’t seen yesterday
Not sure why people get hung up on this. He’s a big bloke who will probably play on another bloke a similar size, like most defenders. He won’t be lining up on Cameron or Lohmann, will he? Maybe he’s allowed to float, but even then, he’ll still need to defend someone, and that probably won’t be the really quick forwards. That probably makes him a key defender, but it’s a bit irrelevant at the end of the day.I don't think he's a KPD. More like a cross between Webster, Battle and Daniel Rich. Long kicking third tall type. They seem to like to isolate him in space and get the ball in his hands. Probably plays similar to Bonner in a way at VFL level.
