My uninformed guess is then he was the lone guy pushing shit uphill (getting rid of Hinkley). With Warren clearly in that camp, perhaps he's thinking if there are two of them, it won't be so easy to ignore them. Especially if both are on the football committee. If you get both the actual successful footballers recommending ditching Ken early in 2025 when a rough patch is hit, not so easy if it's just 'Oh that's crazy Warren.
