I know it's purely hypothetical, but kind of season would it take for a key forward to win the Brownlow in this day and age?

I guess that's why we have the Coleman Medal.

For me, they'd have to kick 100+ goals a game whilst averaging 20 odd touches.

Cameron averaged these numbers for a 5-6 game stretch at the beginning of last year, not sure he even polled straight 3’s.

To put into perspective: He has absolutely destroyed Judd, GAJ, and Dustys best seasons.
More than doubled a few winners and even.
Beaten many combined winners.
More than doubled the last player to kick 100 goals in a season.
Only 18 votes away from matching Wayne Carey's career tally of 63.

AFLCA has by far the most weight for mine. They know the game better than anyone.

That and B&F in a premiership side. That is hugely prestigious in my mind.

Cripps had a ripper season & is a deserved Brownlow winner - however not a chance he deserved 40 ****ing 5 votes. Him getting 45 has not inspired the same awe in me as Judd getting 30.
Dusty 36 in 2017 was the GOAT season and Cripps would be the first to admit he was not 9 votes better

Dusty in 2017 was statistically worse than Dangerfield in every meaningful category. Cripps 2024 is better than Dusty 2017.

Yeah I saw that too. I don't think the award is a sham but I do think it is not at all secure or unknown before it begins. It'll be interesting to see if her comment gets any follow up.

It definitely questions the integrity of the award if votes have been opened before the count.

Now Cripps is a deserving winner, but if they are opened prior it opens it up to tampering.

Not saying it happens, but they tell us the votes are secure, which sounds like total bullshit after her statement on the Red Carpet.

Bont and Neale getting absolutely disrespected. Generally garbage night all round in terms of the count and coverage.

Not hating because Daicos didn't win either. He got a vote in a game he had 15 disposals and got subbed off in. Umpires are a joke.

Because he won us them all himself, Walsh had a poor season outside of a good patch when we looked great thumping port and geelong and Cerra was too busy popping hammys to play midfield. It was the cripps show which is why they fell away from last years efforts, no support.

Andrew Dillons wife said in the Red Carpet that she liked Bontempelli but had heard he wasn’t in the running.

Why would she say that based on his year unless Andrew Dillon had counted the votes.

Votes are all tallied up ahead of time. A select few already know who wins and by how much. It’s been done for years.

The slip up was her giving away the fact Bont wasn’t in the running not that they’ve already counted the votes

I mean votes for winners now has gotten insane by historic standards, but then again goal kicking tallies of the 80s and 90s look insanely high by current day standards.

TBH I don’t take the Brownlow that seriously, it’s a nice acolade and Cripps winning it twice puts him in rarified air and it’s something that will be remembered when he retires.

People were even more angry when Judd won in 2010 but no one cares about that now, just see him as a champion 2 time Brownlow winner.

Judd was off the charts. I didn’t care he got a second he was that good. Cripps nowhere near that level. But that’s just my opinion. But it’s a pretty even comp and Cripps deserves his medal. I’m not going to contest that

Cripps got 2 votes for a game he had 19 disposals and went at 14.3% kicking efficiency.
Dusty would never get votes if he had game like that in fact he would hammered in the media for it.
