I guess that's why we have the Coleman Medal.I know it's purely hypothetical, but kind of season would it take for a key forward to win the Brownlow in this day and age?

For me, they'd have to kick 100+ goals a game whilst averaging 20 odd touches.
He didn't deserve the AA so that checks outI'm sure Cripps is a deserved winner. But his and Daicos's tallies are just insane.
Jeremy McGoverngot zero votes in a season that got him an All-Australian and a Club Championship.PLAYERCARDSTART20Jeremy Mcgovern

I guess this is the beauty or the mystique of "Opinion Awards"
AFLMVP as voted by the Players
2024 winner: Bontempelli

2024 winner: Nick Daicos
Brownlow medal as voted by umpires
Winner: Cripps
Dusty in 2017 was statistically worse than Dangerfield in every meaningful category. Cripps 2024 is better than Dusty 2017.Ben Cousins 20 votes won it. I remember being in awe when Judd got 30.
Cripps had a ripper season & is a deserved Brownlow winner - however not a chance he deserved 40 ****ing 5 votes. Him getting 45 has not inspired the same awe in me as Judd getting 30.
Dusty 36 in 2017 was the GOAT season and Cripps would be the first to admit he was not 9 votes better
Damn this thread is so full of conspiratorial theories and accusations of rigging it might as well be a MAGA rally.
Patrick Cripps is an absolute champion and thoroughly deserves the medal for an outstanding season.
It definitely questions the integrity of the award if votes have been opened before the count.Yeah I saw that too. I don't think the award is a sham but I do think it is not at all secure or unknown before it begins. It'll be interesting to see if her comment gets any follow up.
One day I’d like them to be honest
“When did you think you were a chance to win the Brownlow”
“Well about mid year. Walshy was playing like crap, Cerra couldn’t kick the ball more then 30m and McKay/Curnlw were showing they had the consistency of burnt custard”
Should have got 50 minimum
Still remember Rd 20 North vs Geelong.
Xerri absolutely dominated that game. Didn't get a vote.
LDU got a few possessions, not much impact. 1 vote.
Judds wife has stolen all the Botox at CarltonIt's moving. I doubt he needs botox just yet.
Bloody umps, the natural enemy of the Tiger.Brownlow is a cooked award, has been the last couple years.
Bont and Neale getting absolutely disrespected. Generally garbage night all round in terms of the count and coverage.
Not hating because Daicos didn't win either. He got a vote in a game he had 15 disposals and got subbed off in. Umpires are a joke.
Because he won us them all himself, Walsh had a poor season outside of a good patch when we looked great thumping port and geelong and Cerra was too busy popping hammys to play midfield. It was the cripps show which is why they fell away from last years efforts, no support. In Carlton's 13 wins he polled 34 votes
Yes. They also did things that caught the umpire's eye. But not all were Brownlow winners. I'll add Pendles to that list.Ever watch Ablett, Hodge, Matthews or Bont play?
In his speech you can tell hes desperate to get the Blues to a GF
Votes are all tallied up ahead of time. A select few already know who wins and by how much. It’s been done for years. The awards a sham.
Andrew Dillons wife said in the Red Carpet that she liked Bontempelli but had heard he wasn’t in the running.
Why would she say that based on his year unless Andrew Dillon had counted the votes.
Secure votes my ass.
I mean votes for winners now has gotten insane by historic standards, but then again goal kicking tallies of the 80s and 90s look insanely high by current day standards.
TBH I don’t take the Brownlow that seriously, it’s a nice acolade and Cripps winning it twice puts him in rarified air and it’s something that will be remembered when he retires.
People were even more angry when Judd won in 2010 but no one cares about that now, just see him as a champion 2 time Brownlow winner.
Are you only judging on this year? A prelim is pretty close to a grand final. If Cripps is the best player in the competition, why he can't he get your team remotely near a Grand Final?
I reckon if you think really, really hard you might know the answer. If Cripps is the best player in the competition, why he can't he get your team remotely near a Grand Final?
do u have links? i gotta read those
Cripps got 2 votes for a game he had 19 disposals and went at 14.3% kicking efficiency.Cripps is a worthy winner no doubt, but 45 votes?
To put into perspective: He has absolutely destroyed Judd, GAJ, and Dustys best seasons.
More than doubled a few winners and even.
Beaten many combined winners.
More than doubled the last player to kick 100 goals in a season.
All of those three were the best players this year in my opinion. So I think its right all three won at least something.I guess this is the beauty or the mystique of "Opinion Awards"
