My preferred option with our first 2 picks are Smith & Draper. They would balance our midfield nicely alongside Taranto Hopper Ross McAuliffe but I'm in the minority there

How Dare You Greta GIF

I'm not certain one way or the other if he is a icing on top player or just a genuinely talented player putting up good numbers.

I know the sample size is small due to the injury, but in his 3 coates league games for 2024 he averaged 28 disposals of which 14.7 were kicks on average and 14 were handballs on average, averaged 7.3 marks, 2.3 tackles and 1.7 goals.

On the surface that just reads like a good solid, consistent quality player rather than a flashy icing on top player?
1. Lalor
6. Smillie
10. Lindsay
11. Hotton
I’d be ok with that. Good mix of power, pace and skill. 2 with X factor goal kicking. Players that can play multiple roles.
If Armstrong or Tauru avail @ 10/11, might have a tough choice.

We've lost a large amount of x-factor and types of players that draw fans to the footy. The likes of Dusty, Rioli and Bolton were all x-factor and put bums on seats.

For me, it makes sense to take a punt on this kid if he is still on the board between 10 and 15 (if we still have picks there) as he looks like he could be anything if he can put it all together.

He, along with FOS are in my "must recruit if still there category".
Yep, I’ve, got Lalor, FOS, Draper, Smillie, Jagga, Armstrong, Tauru, Langford, Allan, Lindsay, Berry, Hotton, Hannaford, Dattoli, J Whitlock all in the must recruit if available category! Do we have enough draft picks?

From the highlights i watched his disposal and desision making wasnt great...
Handballed to players back in traffic and kicked to a teammate while he was directly in front.
No doubt it was a small sample size but didnt wow me tbh...

I'd love to be wrong about this but I can't see us making finals in the next four years. By then Tarranto and Hopper are in their twilight I would have thought. If I was Blair I'd be building this list now with that in mind. I think Tarranto and Hopper are going to be great players to have around to set standards, drive culture and protect the kids from being smashed but unfortunately I think it's highly likely we don't win our next flag with them in the side.

Try not to see it as just what you're looking at on the screen. Think about what it potentially looks like in a professional environment with top class coaching.
Consider the natural development of his base skills.

Huge ceiling that kid.

We're on the final stretch run with the National Draft only a couple of weeks away. Just like last season I'll be producing a series of full season highlights videos for the top prospects, and first up is Sid the kid, the SANFL Sensation Sid Draper.

Looks like he (Draper) could be no 1. He is so quick in all aspects

We were making finals regularly 3y after cotch Rance and dusty was added to the list . Just missed in 2012 . I expect a similar trajectory

Still no clearer in my mind what kpf we should grab.

There’s a lot to like in a draft that was short on talls at the start of the year.

J Whitlock looked to have put on some decent size from the end of 23/start of 24.
He could be a very late bloomer, making him a real option at 10/11.

Shanahan has done nothing wrong, blitzed at VFL level, the most contested marks in the Nationals, has had some excellent performances down back as well .

Faull, reminds me of Hogan, great hands, dangerous at ground level, strong one on one.

Tarua and Armstrong incredible athletes.

Right now I’m liking Whitlock for what he could eventually be, but honestly be happy with any of the above

Why the hell do we need to balance the worst midfield in the comp?

We are starting again, get the best two for 5 years from now that will be at the heart of our midfield with the high high picks we have this year. In 2-3 years time when our 1-5 picks become 5-12 picks start balancing our dynamic duo from this year.

My only issue is if we trade up and lose a pick
Are we still taking him ?
I think that scenario does pose an issue for us.

Maybe we end up with 1, 2 and 6 but it is at the expense of 10 and or 11 which could mean missing someone like Hotton, but getting 3 of Lalor / FOS / Jagga / Smilie / Langford

Which would we prefer is then the next big question of those 2 scenarios.

Shanahan looks like a Riewoldt clone super impressive. Faull showed huge improvement would grab both.

I just cant see why we need pick 2.

Lalor seems no 1, as he should be IMO but the next best player is no standout. I want FOS to jump out at me and demand we pick him, but I just dont see it so why bother.

There isnt even a pick 1 standout, let alone pick 2 FFS

Might wanna check you maths there, cowboy. Cotch and Rance drafted 2007, made finals for the first time 2013.

We are resisting trading pick 6, so none of those scenarios will be accepted by Blair. It’s a wait and see for me, especially with Port and GWS now said to be involved too.
With the other teams involved I can see us keeping 6 while also getting 2. Which sets us up really well in the draft for the best talent available. I could see us getting Lalor, Fos, then having the player who slips to 6, whether that is Smillie, Smith or Langford.
