A little write up on the dogs selections

Pick 21 Oliver Hannaford
Did someone want an upgrade at HFF?
Capable of the elusive repeat sprints and defensive pressure whilst also being an offensive threat. Hannafords end to the year shows he has alot of development left in him.

Pick 29 Christian Moraes
Whilst he had a somewhat underwhelming top age year that can somewhat be blamed on the depth in the midfield of the teams he played in. Has shown to be a consistent accumulator on the inside and out, Moraes uses his endurance to issue death by a thousand cuts we haven't had on the wing since prime Lachie Hunter.

36. Angus Clarke
Coming off his top age year looking like a 15 year old isn't the only comparison to Bailey Dale. Capable of dash and dare off of half-back whilst also being able to intercept defence seems his best position, but he is also more then handy up forward able to hit the scoreboard in many different ways. More of a boom or bust type but at pick 36 the potential boom is irresistible. Potentially takes over from JJ.

Pick 49 Lucca Grego
Whilst he has cut his teeth as a midfielder, Grego has all the tools to be a Lockdown defender. Tough as nails, hates losing 1v1s and tackles hard. He may not have the ceiling of some others but has a very high floor and could replace Duryea as early as 2026.

Yeah from Claremont. 187cm inside midfielder, remember him taking one of the marks of the U18 champs. He scored a 6.08 2km, a 7.980 agility, 73cm standing VJ and a 86cm running VJ at the state combine.

Edit: This is the mark. No regard for his own safety whatsoever

Jesus, that was huge

Christian Moreas has been very underwhelming this year. He probably slides into the 50s.

He is certainly one I don't have for us really. We tend to take players who have a very strong end to their year at our picks in the last few years or have rose in their draft year from relative obscurity Moraes doesn't exactly fit with what we tend to do.

Good effort, but as a whole, I think you need to think about this a bit more no offense. Saints taking two similar types that may not transition into the midfield. GWS taking 3 metro players when they have openly stated they like the country boys as they are more likely to stay. Swans taking Dodson when they just took a 1st round ruck in Green last year. I know this is a bit of fun, but I find all these very unrealistic.

Keen on all of Hannaford, Clarke, and Grego. Do wonder if Moraes is that much better than Caleb Poulter.

Whenever Bevo was asked about why he had dropped certain players (Macrae, Daniel etc) earlier this year he always replied with what the data was telling them about where the game is heading implying that you need players who can cover ground. We dont have much depth in this type of player which is why Vanders and Gallagher get so many games (I still have faith in Gallagher long term).

I just cant see us picking big body mids with 1st/2nd round picks if these elite running, pacey, flanker turn midfielder types with
good Footy IQ and ideally competitiveness are available.

Hamish Davis ran one of the best 2km time trials at the combine. At the later picks Urquhart also ran one of the best too. Just because they are tall and big bodied doesn't mean they don't cover ground as easily. Macrae got caught out by being too one dimensional, not having a second position that you can play in and still contribute to the team hurts when rotations are limited as they are now. He had one position he plays well which is inside midfield and that was it.

Fair point, I’ll have a look into him.

I was more meaning big bodied inside mids like Hynes.
Additions of Kennedy and Sanders to inside brigade already stacked. Combined with Taller half backs in Coffield, Freijah, Buku, O’Donnel, Cleary mean unless the 190 types are dynamic and have serious forward craft I doubt we pick them early.

We need ground ball players with all our tall talent.

Also at our pick in the 40's look out for the kids that have got there the hard way and improved very rapidly late. We have a history of taking those sorts late (McNeil, Vandermeer, Gags ect)
We do love ourselves an overager in that range too, even taking Gags recently.

We took players who performed well in the 2km time trials last year. I suspect we keep that trend so guys who are at the pointy end of the time trials at state or national testing come into our frame.

I wrote something similar last night, but kept having issues with my internet (which is why my last post from last night came across as a bit annoyed).

We've tried to bring in athletic types in O'Driscoll, Rypstra, Jones, Parker and Bedendo with later picks and it hasn't worked out for us apart from Gallagher. I'd like us to go hard for leg speed early this year and even look at bringing our future 1st or 2nd pick in to play to secure two of Hannaford, Hotton and Berry. We need quality leg speed.

3 of our picks last year were in the top 12 for the 2km time trial (Freijah, AOD and Croft).
I can't see us abandoning the strategy. Lobb has a huge TOG too which is why we targeted him, massive tank for a big guy.

Agreed. Jamarra and Darcy have really poor tanks, so we've needed to address this area. We are missing lightning quick forward half types as well and I think this also needs addressing.

All the picks should go to non tall front half players, midfielders are the easiest position to recruit from other clubs due there being a surplus of them in the league and without a good first you probably won't get a top liner. The three talls are an advantage no one else has getting some speed and crumbing ability will make the forward line significantly better than anyone else in the league. With the picks this year history says at least two of them won't make it so you're better off putting all of your eggs in one basket.

Also Alger who is just outside the top ten by like .01 of a second ran very similarly to AOD in sprints and agility so if he is at our pick in the forties and we haven't picked a genuine small forward yet I would not be surprised if we go there

Hannaford and Berry are the two we need with 17 but we might get beaten to the punch in both. GWS looking to replace their FA/trade losses this year a real risk to go for similar types to us.
Surely we trade up to 11 or 10 with our future first this years 3rd.

I'd obviously be thrilled with Hannaford and Clarke. Moraes is the opposite, one I struggle to like. Don't like his kicking, defensive game and his contested game. GWS taking 3 metro players when they have openly stated they like the country boys as they are more likely to stay. Swans taking Dodson when they just took a 1st round ruck in Green last year. I know this is a bit of fun, but I find all these very unrealistic.
I appreciate the feedback.
With the dogs picks I tried to keep my opinions out of it and pick purely those that I've heard we have shown interest in ( bar Hannaford because I haven't heard of anyone in that range)
Outside of Barrat and Clarke the players I have linked to the dogs don't particularly excite as I have stated previously on this thread I want speed at all our picks.

St.K similarly I have somewhat of a handle over and know that they prefer Reid and Travaglia but I see Reid going slightly earlier, on the day if Reid is off the board I wouldn't be suprised if Saints trade out one of those picks. Travaglia is seen as an eventual replacement for Sinclair.

With Dodson I concede he isnt the most likely fit and that with green signed last year probably excludes swans developing two first round rucks at once. Personally though I rate Dodson too good to pass up on at that stage, again in the real thing I think swans package up both late firsts in an attempt to move up the order.

Like Sydney GWS are a team I'm less across but have tried to pick players I have had them linked to on second hand information. Do they take all metro kids in the real thing probably not but that's just where they fell in this phantom and would change with one or more different selections in the teens or a live trade.

Yes this was mainly an activity mainly for fun but I have tried to base it in some reality.
