FYI

Will add a 2024 NAB Draft & Trade tracker thread, stickied.

Tag me when we have a confirmed trade/draft and I will update the thread accordingly

Yeah they’re not exactly the same player, Reid has more flair and Lipinski is bigger and better overhead. But as a loose comparison they’re both average paced half forwards with some defensive shortcomings that overcome their limitations with clever movement and good skills. We could have just played Caleb Daniel at half forward if that’s what we were looking for. I think Murphy is good, but not for us.

Going only on that video, Reid may not be quick, but it seems like he is fully able to utilize the pace he does have. Fast brain. Doesnt mind carrying the ball through contact either. I wouldnt be against taking him

If Reid slides we would be silly not to pick him. Would complement Sanders nicely.

If a slider doesn’t make it to our pick I am hoping for Hannaford would be great in our forward line. Haynes or Datoli would be an ok if all the quick small forward options are off the board. Both have forward/mid capabilities to add to our setup for both short and long term.

Like the look of Oliver. For our second pick if he lasts that long. Alger seems to be a player with skills we need. I think we need to prioritise a combination of speed, endurance and kicking efficiency in our prospects.

I'd happily take Davis at pick 17. He's played (and performed) against men in the WAFL.

I'm far less enthused about this draft than many. There is a lot of value in later picks - guys like Barrat and Alger seem like they could make the grade. Davidson is ready to go and Richmond should jump on him with one of their second rounders.
Davidson looks a plug and play upgrade on McNeil and be a credible goal kicking threat to make his direct opponent a bit more accountable.

Who are your favourites?
Might end up been a vanilla draft but I’d rather vanilla over a shit sandwich
Talent is pretty well known across the whole draft these days. So if a side requires a specific type need to go early chanced of getting a hit as a rookie are slim at best.

And with Bont getting near 30 we need to be bold and take some risks to hopefully get a shot at another flag

ARGH - annoyed with some of these 'highlight' videos. The ones are basically the player lining up and kicking a goal for 1:30 of a 2 minute video. Its a highlight vid - we presume he kicks the goal. If the player is a forward, wed like to see taking marks and the way the player moves in the forward line, but particualry for a mid, we dont care that much. Show us the midfield and stoppage craft, FFS

Of all the players that might be available at our pick this kid excites me the most. A fast brain and clean hands more than makes up for half a yard of pace.

This channel does a pretty decent job at showing all of that
Especially compared to what the AFL puts out

Just saw a chart on testing on the Draft General Discussion thread. Hannaford appears to have put in a poor 2km time?
Yeah, he's done some perfectly good yoyo tests so maybe a bad day.
He wanted to slide to our pick so he chose to back off a bit in the 2km. Wouldn't want to end up at Richmond or GWS now would he?

His testing was similar to Harry Sheezel in pre season testing. He's more an agile type rather then a Treloar type.

EDIT: This is his testing

20m - 3.03 (above average)
Agility - 8.390 (good)
Yoyo - 21.6 (elite)

My main concern with Reid is he may not be a genuine mid at the next level. Could be a Lipiniski type where he's better used on the flanks. Bit small and not overly physical.
That physical profile for Murphy Reid is very solid. Not slow at all and at 181cm he has a similar profile to Caleb Serong (179cm), Albeit he is a little skinnier than Caleb Serong was in draft year.

Caleb Serong (Gippsland Power): 6min 24sec 2km
Speed - 3.12sec 20m sprint
Agility - 8.28sec

Not saying they play the same just highlighting that there should be no doubts on physical profile, it’s very solid.

I watched Murphy Reid’s highlights from 15 games whist on the exercise bike this morning 🤓 here is what I learned.

Positives: his composure and awareness in traffic, can definitely see the basketball background, always takes the space available to him before releasing a teammate. When he has plenty of space he finds a team mate with a well weighted pass. Combine this with his quick thinking and he is definitely a mid at next level. These are elite traits.

Skills - does some libba like handballs in traffic when not only do you think how did you see that but also how did you execute. Very clean. Kicked goals on both feet in one game too.

Gets plenty of the footy - Averaged 25 disposal in CTL
Plenty of days out with 3 goals and 25-30+

Highly recommend you watch each of the 4 games you can watch of his at the Champs. He won the best player on ground 3 times across champs, best player for Vic Metro at the champs in a side that had 13 people make All Australian. He averaged a goal a game and had some big days. Played really well in the wet too vs Vic Country which showcases his cleanness and toughness.

I feel he would compliment Sanders well and could be a Libba understudy with the good work he does at the coal face.

Negatives - penetration. In those 15 vids the max I saw him kick was a tick over 40m. There were a lot of set shots from reasonable distances that fell well short. For this reason I doubt he is a small forward at next level. Has great short passing skills not too different to Caleb Daniel.

Overall
Could be a high half forward similar to Brent Daniels role for gws at next level but it is much more likely that he is a genuine mid imo. Profile good, quick brain and composure even better, cannot teach that. Very clean player and would learn plenty off Libba, Treloar, Bont. He will know Sanders already having played together last year at Sandy.

Heard him speak about it, it was exactly 1 month after the CTL Grand Final, so he didn’t have very long to prepare once he recovered from that.
Read somewhere that clubs don’t see it as an issue once they getting him out of a boarding house and into an elite environment.

It's in 2 parts. Reid and Trav still on the board.
I think it just shows the depth of draft 6-20, 1-5 I’d be surprised if it wasn’t Lalor, FOS, JAGGA, Draper, Ashcroft unless North go Tauru at 2.

From pick 6, all clubs could have significantly different lists. The talk last few days has been Murphy Reid and yet I don’t think it would be crazy for him to still go top 10.
