Reid sliding to our first would be a great result. Maybe he doesn't test elite for speed but to me his ability to play and execute at top speed is more important than being a step faster.McGowan’s Age prediction is a bit depressing, has Berry, Hotton and Hannaford going immediately before our first and us taking a sliding Murphy Reid there, which I think would be a poor fit for us.

The other picks are less than thrilling but I think that is just a lack of digging into our list needs.
A haul of Reid, Hamish Davis for an outside role, and Unwin as that fast pressure small forward would be possible at our picks and would be a much more exciting draft, at least in my opinion.
No current season stats available
Watched quite a bit of Davis’ footage last night. The only major knock on him that I can see is his field kicking seems quite poor. Not that that should stop us drafting him - not many players are capable of having the impact he did at senior WAFL level. 21 touches and 4 goals in a final is crazy goodReid seems more outside than Davis who had at least played against men
Reid does seem very smart though, I'm not sure he makes the transition to centre square mid at AFL level though.
I’m with you King, not overly excited by this selection. Let’s see what happens in a couple of weeks.I would be shocked if we picked Gross , just doesn’t fit any need that I can detect.
Just fail to see any elite traits.
Surely Oliver or Clarke before him for us ?

That would make Caleb Daniel a superstar mid. What qualities make a successful mid?
IMO ability to make good decisions and execute under pressure are at the top of the list.

There's a long running correlation between CP% out of total disposal, and transition to AFL success (a few articles over the years).
Reid seems quite the clever outside operator but being small and not super quick that limits his CBA potential. A smaller Dal Santo - you want to give him the ball and/or let him run at congestion, not sit in it.
Haven’t seen a lot of vision of guys but I would like hannaford, ough and moraes if they were on the board. I like a forward , big bodied mid and a wing as first three picks. Last pick might be a mature aged gorilla key defenderI would be shocked if we picked Gross , just doesn’t fit any need that I can detect.

It's more about body shape and style of play though. By and large, the smaller mids who transition to AFL centre bounces successfully have a 40-45% CP 'floor'.Caleb would have made a fine mid in the 80s, as long as he didnt mind getting his head punched in every week. But these days up against 6'3 athletes, its a bridge too far.
But 180 is still doable, if you have the skills.

Reid is quality and if he slips to us it's a minor miracle, but I'm not sure he ends up where others project his long term AFL career.
